Hi all,

Ok so I have wanted to ask this since yesterday but I am I little worried it's going to offend. So I just want to say I know there has always been and still is more sexism towards women then men and this is not a point scoring thread. Smile

Ok here I go.... I want to know why I never see fat men on TV ads, yes really? All I seem to see now is large women jumping around in knickers and bra, on some TV ad, yes they look fab!! And I think it's good that we are putting more out there other then just really thin models but I never see large men on TV ads jumping around in the sea or pool in their underwear? 😂

I asked a few rl friends and all of them have pulled a face at me an gone, eww why would I want to see a large man with belly hanging out, dancing around on my TV screen in his underwear.

AIBU to think it's sexist?

P.S. I am not taking about dating, I have never gone out with a large man myself, so again. No point scoring. This is just about the TV ads.

The "useless Dad" type ads really piss me off Perpetuates and plays to the myth that men are useless around the home and when it comes to childcare so women must sigh and grin, good naturedly shake their heads and continue to do it all.

rookiemere · 07/07/2019 20:10

Yes cstaff whilst it's nice to see bigger ladies as well as wafer thin ones , it would be nicest to actually see more that represent the average woman so roughly size 12-16.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 07/07/2019 21:44

The ladies in the Boots ad looked round anout a 12 to me.

RolyWatts · 07/07/2019 21:54

@pigsDOfly I agree. Hence my other post about how far removed these plus sized models still are from the reality of womanhood.

VladmirsPoutine · 07/07/2019 22:12

Traditionally men aren't held up to the same standard as women are. Therefore it stands to reason that we are (now) 'celebrating' fat women as they are and have generally been treated rather abysmally in society and media whereas there's nothing remarkable to celebrate about a 'fat' man. We all know they are the norm iyswim?

That said, fat men in the sense that they are 'fat' is often used to display laziness and untidiness in much the same way women are - it's not in that instance then about gender but about fatness in and of itself.

VladmirsPoutine · 07/07/2019 22:13

Although an interesting discussion I do often wonder why women, gay people, PoC, disabled people can't have anything without someone somewhere wondering about men as a class having access to the same.

starzig · 07/07/2019 22:25

Because men arent as sensitive. It doesn't bother men seeing the fellow healthy man on the screen whereas women get upset by seeing a healthy female on screen so would rather see a fat woman to justify that it's OK to be on the chubby side.

RedSheep73 · 07/07/2019 22:30

Why would you watch the adverts anyway?

HelenaDove · 07/07/2019 23:50

Well starzig You can have a fat mouth without having a fat body as you seem particularly keen to prove!
