To not understand people getting hammered at concerts?

My best friend and I went to see Westlife last night as we were big fans as kids, and the show itself was a lovely trip down memory lane. However, we were standing on the pitch and were surrounded by really drunk people. Not just tipsy and having a bit of a sing along, but falling over, pushing people, smoking in people's faces and generally being aggressive. We had seen lots of people bringing in 4-5 bottles of beer each.

There was a group of young 'men' beside us who were there of their own volition and didn't have any girlfriends with them. They behaved like they were in a mosh pit and really frightened a couple of kids who were standing near us. They were pushing people around them, throwing beer bottles, etc. One of the mums gave out to them and they consistently took the piss and tried to embarrass her. We moved further back because they were just unbearable, only to be stuck beside a group of girls chainsmoking and whistling really loudly. My ears are still ringing.

I really don't get why anyone would spend money on a ticket and then get so shitfaced that they can't remember the gig. They also ruin it for others. I've no problem at all with people having a couple of drinks, but being surrounded by so many hammered people is really not a nice experience. It certainly wasn't something I expected at Westlife! I'm no stranger to a few drinks myself, but I don't get people wanting to get blotto at a Little Mix concert

I think the only way I'd make it through a Little Mix concert would be to get blotto!

I went to see Bastille in Manchester a couple of years back, playing a smaller than usual venue, tickets not easy to get.

Some people were falling over drunk, one woman got thrown out for being so disruptive!

I like a drink as much as the next woman, but I’d also like to have some memory of what I’ve spent my money on!

Same at Bon Jovi at Wembley a couple of weeks ago. I was in the wheelchair bay and the couple next to me invited all their mates into the wheelchair area, all pissed up 🤬. They kept tripping over the back pegs on my chair, leaning on it and standing between me and the stage. Ruined it for me - I was there because I had to be, they didn't.

I don't understand why people get hammered AT ALL. Doing it at an expensive concert seems even more bloody stupid.

ShatnersWig
I agree. Smile

ShatnersWig I was at a party at the weekend and, now I’m in my 30s, was trying to figure out why some people have to drink to the point of being hammered to consider it a good night too. I can understand those in their teens and twenties not understanding their limits but genuinely can’t see the point in fully grown otherwise mature adults have to render themselves unconscious every weekend and waste entire nights and days of their lives. I just do not get it at all.

@Sakura7 the queues for toilets were insane!
After the show we were walking to Connolly station to meet dh and a very very drunk girl on her own stopped us to ask where holycross college was and she was crying because she couldn’t find it. We were directly opposite it. We walked her across the road and left her with a Garda. She was hammered
