To put my 2.5 year old in earplugs overnight?

Basically, our 2.5 has been a terrible sleeper and two weeks ago he slept through for the first time in his life. I had a full night of sleep for the first time in 2.5 years. It was amazing. Something has suddenly changed and for the last 10 days he has been sleeping right through or waking up just once and then going back to sleep. It's a miracle.

But now, my horrible neighbours are in the midst of a huge party (big backstory with them but basically I know it's going to be loud all night – they've hired speakers and everything), and I'm worried it's going to ruin everything.

We have packets of earplugs because me and DH both use them sometimes – can a 2.5 year old use them? Is it even possible/is it dangerous in anyway? I'm a bit desperate. I could cut them in half to make them a bit smaller for him??

I wouldn't. I'd be scared of them either getting lost/stuck or him eating them.

Cornettoninja · 06/07/2019 19:13

I wouldn’t because I’d be worried about them magically migrating into his mouth and choking him. I’m a worrier though.

White noise? Have you got a fan or could you download an app/YouTube.

ChaChaDeGregorio · 06/07/2019 19:13

I would not put earplugs in him. He wouldn't let you anyway I bet. And putting in cut up bits of earplugs is an even worse idea.

Could you put him in a travel cot in the quietest part of the house?
Or stick him in the car and zoom the grandmas for a last min sleepover??

lickencivers · 06/07/2019 19:16

🙄 I'm sure will be fine to use them

Equally tell your neighbours to shut up if it's late and noisy.

BertheMorisot · 06/07/2019 19:16

Yeah it does seem a bit risky! Like I said, just desperate I guess. We already use a white noise app, have for ages, but it doesn't drown out this neighbour's party because they're right outside this side of the house :(

Ugh. I wish we lived on a desert island!

Can you play white noise or put a fan on to drown out the other noise? I wouldn’t use earplugs - my 2 year old thinks they look delicious Confused

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 06/07/2019 19:19

No of course you can't.

I was going to suggest white noise. You can cover quite a lot with it. I’m loving having white noise on for the baby at the moment because it obscures my hisband’s snoring.

Poor you having such inconsiderate neighbours. Can you stay somewhere else for the night?

ChaChaDeGregorio · 07/07/2019 20:30

How did you get on?
