Sick sick sick sick SICk of fucking diet talk at work

PrinceArchie · 06/07/2019 17:52

All bloody day

What they had for breakfast
What they’re gonna have for lunch
What they want for dinner

The inspecting of food at lunchtime and comments thereof

The 5:2 diet, the 800 cal diet, the SW and WW bores, the bloody type diet, the “I can only eat every second Friday of the month” diet.

A woman on the Cambridge diet SHAT herself the other day. Not at work, at home, but we heard all about it.

AIBU to tell them all to fuck the fuck off talking about their diets at work. It’s unprofessional, they have no idea if others in the office have had eating disorders, it’s fucking boring and I don’t want to have to answer “oooo what ya having today then” every time I nip to the fucking canteen.

The day men start discussing shitting themselves because of some fad diet is the day I’ll say go ahead ladies

Totally agree. I worked in a male dominated office so there wasn't too much of it fortunately but one woman who was about 5 stone overweight had a go at me for eating pumpkin seeds and walnuts and told me how much fat there was in them. Then she went and bought a huge bag of crisps. She had been on a WW diet and lost a huge amount, then put it all back on and more besides....

A friend did very well on a SW diet but was unbelievably virtuous about it, and huffed and puffed each time I ate something which didn't go with the SW ethos. She also lost a lot of weight but has put it all back on and more besides too.

CaptainCabinets · 06/07/2019 18:25

I couldn’t shit for days at a time when I did Cambridge Shock

YouJustDoYou · 06/07/2019 18:27

I used to get "oh my god, you're eating the WHOLE CAN?" (of soup). It's fucking liquid. How can I survive the entire work day on half a tiny can of soup?

How about headphones & listen to music instead of their crap?

SimonJT · 06/07/2019 18:32

It’s like this in my office, the latest fad is only eating packs of wafer thin chicken, at one point they were weighing out slices so they ate an even amount at each meal. Some of them are really obsessed, they called me a bore a while ago for pointing this out, I pointed out that I had an ED for a very long time and they should think about how their conversation can impact other people. They now discuss their stupid dieta in the loo.

Sparklesocks · 06/07/2019 18:35

SimonJT that’s very true, I do think if you’re dieting it’s best not to comment on other people’s food (unless it’s ‘that looks nice!’) as you never know if they have a history of disordered eating or a difficult relationship with food. What some might think is a throwaway comment could be quite a different story to someone else.

StreetwiseHercules · 06/07/2019 18:37

I find that women in the workplace talk about about food almost constantly and it’s the same everywhere I’ve worked.

After 23 years of working, I still can’t get my head around it.

TooManyPaws · 06/07/2019 18:42

Gods, I used to work in a place like that; drove me insane. Despite being majority female, the only time my current team talks about food is when one member mentions her side business occasionally- which is teaching Indian home cooking. We do provide yummy cakes for birthdays and other celebrations though!

Mrsjayy · 06/07/2019 18:43

Do you think they are hungry so obsess about it ?

phoenixrosehere · 06/07/2019 18:44

Yanbu.

Having to hear people talk out loud about if they should have a biscuit or not, someone telling them to go on then and them saying they are on a diet made me want to shout “ Ignore it then or eat the da** thing. there is no need for an office consensus about it..

Goldenhorn · 06/07/2019 18:44

Omggggg I hate this. Yadnbu!!

I have people I work with that are so judged and obsessive about food and they're both so slim.

One only eats healthy food but constantly says shes hungry and plays sport for hours and hours a week.

The other eats "normal" food but is restrictive on portions and constantly asks what everyone else is eating. "Ooh what's that you're eating" "ooh what you having for lunch" "ooh that looks healthy" "ooh are you having a cheat day today" JUST FUCK OFF

The sad thing is I now sometimes eat in my car as I cant be arsed with them.

Goldenhorn · 06/07/2019 18:45

Judgey* not judged

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/07/2019 18:46

Unprofessional Hmm

Tedious, boring etc... yes, however you can’t dictate or control what other people talk about

MoreNiceCereal · 06/07/2019 18:46

Deeply, deeply boring. Very glad I work from home, for lots of reasons, but this is one of them.

insideoutsider · 06/07/2019 18:47

Don't get me started.
In my office (at lunch time), all they talk about is the 'cheeky' biscuit they're having, what they're cooking, what slice of ham they added to what slab of butter and all the Slimming World they're doing and how hard they're working. They then queue to use the lift up ONE FLOOR every time they have to go upstairs and the 'healthy' lunch is a massive salad with toast and bacon AND fruit AND yogurt and a healthy snack throughout the day!
All they do is talk about food!
YADNBU.

Lurkeycakewoman · 06/07/2019 18:48

It drives me bat shit I only work 3 days on those 3 days on our breakfast break me and another girl have a twix and a can of full fat coke Shock the shock of it. All the dieters comment on it every single fucking day we arent over weight we arent forcing them to join us. They can keep their half a cracker with sw friendly cheese spread and their rice cakes.

smoothy · 06/07/2019 18:49

I don’t care about people talking calories etc (veteran ED sufferer) but convoluted point/syn systems, carb-bashing, fasting/cleanses/detoxes, clean eating etc all really rub me the wrong way for some reason. That said, I tend to find attempts by some in recovery from EDs to command that no one talk about weight or diets where they might overhear/see far more oppressive (not throwing unwarranted shade at any PPs - I’m thinking of people I know/have seen elsewhere).
People who make unsolicited comments about what others are eating (unless it’s something really malodorous in a confined space Grin) are horrendous.

Chloe9 · 06/07/2019 18:49

There's two things that sorted out my diet obsession

  1. I became a diet bore, started taking photos of my food and spent all my spare time planning my meals etc.
  2. I shat myself one morning on my front door step because it was taking too long for me to unlock the door (I had consumed nothing but black coffee with sweeteners, laxatives and a meal replacement shake)

It's boring, thoroughly tedious, and it's not about "health" it's about weight. Healthy people exercise, eat well but have other things to talk about.

Eminybob · 06/07/2019 18:49

YANBU, I HATE people commenting on my food, even if it’s to ask what I’m eating. This is why I shut myself in my office at lunch time rather than use the staff room. And so I don’t have to listen to knob head loudly face timing his wife every fucking lunch time.

HoobleDooble · 06/07/2019 18:53

The worst offender at my work weighs slightly more than a newborn baby and bangs on about her husband's opinions on her diet and exercise routine when we all know he looks like a close-up of the moon.

I'm the only one who actually needs to diet and I do start every Monday, but it usually lasts until 10.30 when the biscuits come out 😂 I suffer from terrible fork and mouth disease.

Some of the recipes that get copied and shared around are good though.

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 06/07/2019 18:57

Uuuuuuugh I know what you mean!!!

Its so tiresome with the reletless 'Im being good' 'ooh look you've got a salad you're being good' and the fact you're pretty much presumed to be on a diet just for being female! It almost makes me want to eat chips every day at my desk just to stop people talking about it

Goldenhorn · 06/07/2019 19:00

@HoobleDooble

when we all know he looks like a close-up of the moon

Hahahahahaha

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 06/07/2019 19:00

I THINK it's an attempt at a female bonding thing, just a really crap one

MrsMiggins37 · 06/07/2019 19:00

YANBU and running bores are as tedious as fuck too.
