To think that my permission should have been asked before giving my kids 4 week long temporary tattoos

A friend had my kids after school this week - primary age - and one of the activities they did was henna tattoos. They now all have an arm and leg of brown tattoos, some swirly patterns, some things like a picture of a lion and an apple. The leg ones look like they have mud (or worse!) splattered. It’s fine - not the end of the world and school are relaxed, but no way would I do this to someone’s kids without permission. Aibu?

YANBU. I would be annoyed too. Henna done properly is lovely though!

YANBU. I think some people can be allergic to henna, too, so it’s really irresponsible to not have asked you for that reason, too.

Totally. What if they had been allergic? Or had a wedding or a photoshoot planned? Temporary fine, but I'd say 4 weeks is semi permanent!

TwistyTop · 06/07/2019 12:48

I thought it was only black henna that caused allergies? But yes, I agree it's the sort of thing you should ask parents about first.

Honestly if the patterns were nice then I would be fine with it, but if it looked shit then I'd be really annoyed. From what you've described they sound poorly done.

Jesus, that's pretty bad. Hope they didn't use the black version.

I should say the kids are thrilled with them. It’s me who is Hmm

Brown not black.

I still vividly remember aged 9-10 being told to keep an eye on my cousin, who was a couple of years younger, at a school / village fete type thing. Using his own spending money he had his face painted as a Ninja Turtle and turned out to spectacularly allergic to the orange paint used for the eye bandana. He looked like he was still wearing an eye mask for a week ! I would never put something like henna, face paint etc on someone else's skin without checking they weren't allergic first.
