Is the cream real or squirty?

Our school sell fruit cups on sports day- strawberries, blueberries, grapes and melon from Aldi, no cream in a plastic cup usually used for tea/coffee for £2.

Summer fair sells
fake magnums from Iceland £1 each.
Shite wine £3 a cup or 2 for a fiver
20p crisps 30p
Cans of drink £1.00 minging no sugar £1.50 nice
Finger lights that cost about 5p each from China £2

Ambydex · 05/07/2019 23:07

Yes scones would be much better

Serin · 05/07/2019 23:13

Ridiculous amount. Sorry.
No way would I pay £15 for 5 bowls of strawberries.
Maybe if it was a strawberry "tea" with a hot drink and some scones included.

We find that people come to a fair with a certain amount of money to spend.

Think about everything you have brought in for the fair. You don't want any perishables (food and drink) to be left over - especially those with a short shelf life. Sell them cheap (but still at profit).

If parents are kept happy with food and drink they sit and chat to their friends and family handing cash to the kids to run off and spend on other stalls!

1kg of strawberries from Morrison’s is £4. A portion is probably around 100g so you’d get 10 out of that, 40p each.
Double cream is £2 for 600 ml. Serves about 8? 25p.
Spoons 50 for £1 (though you may want to get slightly better ones than that)
Bowls 8 pack for £2, 25p each (though I’m sure you could find cheaper elsewhere)
Total cost 92p.

£2 doubles your money.

Atthebottomofthegarden · 05/07/2019 23:44

Found bowls at 15.8p, so cost price becomes 83p.

£3 is too much. £1.50-£2 would be ok, if you’re in an affluent area you might get away with £2.50.

If you’re withholding info and your kids actually go to Eton or something, you could probably charge what the hell you like!

CornishYarg · 05/07/2019 23:51

We did them for £1.50 for 100g of strawberries plus double cream (although several didn't want the cream). The cost price for us came to about 80p a portion hence £1.50 selling price as it's roughly double.

Strawberries aren't particularly cheap so you can't charge too low an amount or you'll make a loss. However, £3 sounds a lot unless you're doing a large portion, in which case reduce it.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 05/07/2019 23:58

Put them in ice-cream cones, and avoid bowls and spoons. £1:50

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 06/07/2019 00:10

I think £3 is fair, strawberries aren't cheap. Maybe two portions for £5?

damppatchnot · 06/07/2019 06:30

Thanks everyone I will go for £1,50 option and get myself off to Morrison’s now!! Xx

Strawberries are expensive. I wouldn’t buy my two kids and myself one for £9. Nope.

implantsandaDyson · 06/07/2019 07:44

It was always £1.50 at our fete - very popular. It was squirty cream Grin. If you're handy to a Poundland/Home Bargains/B&M there have pretty cardboard tubs and wooden spoons like the ones you get in individual icecream portions.

PooWillyBumBum · 06/07/2019 07:51

Could you print out two price lists and if they aren’t going at £2.50 then try at £2?

I know they’d sell for £3 at DDs school but it’s private and in SE so we just accept paying through the nose for everything haha!

Jamhandprints · 06/07/2019 07:53

Depends if it's squirty cream, pouring, whipped or clotted. Whipped cream will go a lot further. Clotted is more expensive. I'd phone a greengrocer and ask if they can do you a deal on strawberries for the school fete.

butterry · 06/07/2019 09:35

Do Eton mess, will be less expensive as used less strawberries and it's a bit different. Look up meringue girls, you can make it look beautiful and charge £2.50 a portion. I would buy cheap white meringues for the base and top with a colourful rainbow kiss meringue (deceptively easy to make) and a few sprinkles

brimfullofasha · 06/07/2019 09:38

They were £1 at our school fair yesterday. Squirty cream though.

Babdoc · 06/07/2019 09:40

Are there any “Pick your own” berry farms near you, OP? They’re usually cheaper than supermarkets, so it would increase your potential profit or allow you to lower the price.

TeenTimesTwo · 06/07/2019 09:40

Agree with PP, work out costs, double it and round up. We recently did a school event for £2.

If you really want to sell at £1.50 make sure your bowls aren't too generous.
