Hi all
We are awaiting an MRI for my son. He has suspected Perthes disease and i am beside myself with worry. I have done a bit of research and due to his age (6) he is more likely to need an operation depending how bad it is. That and it's taken about 9 months to get a referral for them to even mention an MRI.

Anyone have any experience with Perthes disease as i read it's not very common about 1 in every 9000 babies and mostly boys.

Tia

Just thought about what i wrote. Of course we aren't a priority. People pay to go private to get soon quicker... Doh! It was a silly comment sprry

My brother was diagnosed with Perthes disease when he was small. He's now 47 and has never had an operation. He was advised not to do certain activities as a child but apart from that he's had no treatment. His hip gives him trouble sometimes particularly if it's damp, but he doesn't limp.

Thank you flabbered. Well we will find out on Monday if it's definitely that or not! Wish us luck x

It wasn’t a silly comment, your DS is your top priority right now, it’s natural (if not always realistic) to think he should be the Drs top proority too 😊 and he was the one that said to call as soon as he’d had the MRI - then gave you a dud number 🙄.

Snyway, it’s giid you got an apt on Monday, that not too long to wait! And if it is Perth’s there looks like lots of very good stories/reasons to expect/hope your DS will be fine if he doesn’t do the activities he’s not supposed to and/or has the treatment

Let us know how you get on!

Hope all goes well op
When dd was seen privately by a consultant he did sometimes prioritise NHS patients, depending on how bad their condition was but if you haven't been "prioritised" then think of it as a good thing - your son isn't as bad as he could be otherwise he would be seen sooner
Not sure if that's any reassurance but heyho Wink

Thank you all. I appreciate it!! X

So we have been called in for emergency blood tests at A and E. Sitting waiting. They won't tell us what they are for though. Wouldn't tell me anything about the MRI just that it's been looked at and blood tests needed. Any ideas ?

Try not to worry

They do have a bit of a habit of just wanting certain things done that don’t actually mean a lot , but make them sound worrying!

I have had quite a few friends/their DC contacted for emergency tests and not one of them had actually been an emergency requirement as far as the consultants were concerned sometimes it’s just procedural too - they can’t do x until y has been done do even if the consultant doesn’t need y it has to be done first

Hope that all makes sense.
Let us know how things are going... 🌷
