Cleaner didn't do what I asked

So our cleaner started today I had to go out so didn't get to meet her this time. I paid for 2 hours and left her an extra £5 and a nice note to say thank you.
She didn't mop anywhere didn't use the carpet spray I asked didn't clean under the sofa as I asked. I told her not to bother with the bedrooms and she cleaned them.

She wiped down the kitchen sides but left the hob dirty. The bathroom hasn't been cleaned just tidied up abit.

We went out and bought new stuff for her to use window cleaner for our glass doors new cloths the cloths didn't even get opened. Also left my tv on with music playing.

Is this the usual or did I get a bad cleaner?

You can still be a cleaner at 17, I don’t understand what being 17 has to do with it? Hmm

A 17 year old is still able to follow instructions.

I would chuck the agency and find a local cleaner with good reviews, ask on your local Facebook.

LIZS · 09/07/2019 09:01

Could she read your instructions? Our 17 yo would probably use wipes given the choice.

Iggly · 09/07/2019 09:03

So what if she’s 17? I could clean at primary school!

I always show the cleaner exactly what I want and make sure I’m home for their first stint so I can check and correct if need be.

underneaththeash · 09/07/2019 09:03

I find with cleaners you have to show them exactly what you want doing (and then repeat it a few weeks later).

Meowington · 09/07/2019 09:03

Very bad cleaner!

My lady is fantastic but it took me over a year to find her. I interviewed her before she started which I think is vital.

She even does added extras I’ve not asked for like taking the bins out and doing any dishes left in the sink!

I’d be lost without her!

Hoppinggreen · 09/07/2019 09:11

I’ve had many crap cleaners but even they have made an effort for the first month or so, get a different one
And if you do find a good one cherish them, they are out there but hard to find!

CoraPirbright · 09/07/2019 09:14

I dunno - I had a cleaner from an agency once and she was v young (late teens) and she didnt have a clue!! The agency made her return and she sulked and argued with me about why she hadn’t done things. The loo under the water line was dark brown (we moved into a short let for a few weeks whilst building work was finished. I was heavily pregnant) and she said she wouldn’t clean it, that it couldnt be done. I showed her that I had put some rubber gloves on and got scrubbing and it had come up like new!! She also sprayed oven cleaner into the oven....and then just left it!! So I stank the place out when I put the oven on! She didnt know you then had to wipe the oven cleaner off! I think that being so young, she simply didnt have the experience/know how to tackle these jobs (and she was a moody, stroppy nightmare).

noctu · 09/07/2019 09:14

I had a cleaner (through a small local agency) who didn't much like cleaning the bathroom etc but would clean the dishes, despite being asked specifically not to. She did it two or three times before I got a bit fed up and asked for a different cleaner. I think she just liked to wash dishes...

lmusic87 · 09/07/2019 09:20

I would get someone else in.

chorizoprincess · 09/07/2019 09:24

I don't know at 17 I was lazy and was crap at cleaning. My mums offering to do it now but feel a bit bad paying my mum to clean my house.

I wouldn't be happy with that. I used to clean hotel rooms at 17 and I think I was ok at it but I know I would be a lot better now.

Also, I wonder how much the agency pay her. Minimum wage for a 17 year old is only £4:35.

likeafishneedsabike · 09/07/2019 10:36

Terrible cleaner (maybe an immature 17 year old?)
Our cleaner is less of a cleaner and more of an all round superhero. Found her on Facebook and will never let her leave me Grin

hibbledibble · 09/07/2019 10:48

If it isn't working on the first visit then find a new cleaner.

Perhaps you need longer to clean to our required standards though. Moving a sofa to clean underneath sounds like a lot for a 2 hour job. Also how heavy is your sofa. I couldn't move mine!

Her age is nothing to do with it.

Piglet89 · 09/07/2019 11:05

Seems like she just used the wipes and none of the actual cleaning products!

Classic lazy behaviour: get rid.

GemmeFatale · 09/07/2019 11:16

I’d ditch her.

The agency, are they offering you a new cleaner to come and redo the two hours free of charge? In which case I’d give them a second chance. If not they’re taking the piss, obviously aren’t training/managing their staff and I’d ditch them too.
