Baby's nail came off when cutting, aibu to not go to doctor?

Just that really. I was trimming my 6 month olds nails as they were long/jagged.
And her pinky nail just peeled off when I went to bite off the excess.
I obviously didn't get a proper bite through.

Baby didn't even react and is playing fine since.
Myself and wife a bit unsure as to whether we need to go to doctor (I don't think there's anything they can do for us) or what to do next?

How about taking her to a pharmacist just to be on safe side?

MQv2 · 05/07/2019 12:16

Wife caved and went to GP

Got given antibiotic cream and a gentle talk on why the biting technique is a useless myth

Unbelievable - a GP appt almost immediately ? Hmm

I have 5 week wait for serious, life threatening issues.

Snowy81 · 05/07/2019 13:12

I can an appointment at my GP within a few hours too. Why is that so Hmm. Actually sometimes I’ve got rang and they’ve said can you come in 10 minutes?

sacope · 05/07/2019 13:19

What a bizarre thread, well the replies anyway.

The child is fine. Why are people suggesting the OP takes her to the GP? The GP can't do anything, the child is not unwell or in need of medical attention. All the GP would do would be till their eyes as OP left the room. What an absolute waste of precious resources. And I bet you are all the first to complain when you can't get an appointment Hmm

Omg you got an anti biotic cream. So there was signs of infection that you omitted in the OP?

Quartz2208 · 05/07/2019 13:24

Its a bizarre thread because Dad clearly feels mum overreacted about how he did the nails. Then when she went and got given antibiotic cream he is still downplaying it

BendydickCuminsnatch · 05/07/2019 13:27

Babies are always seen in a couple of hours at our practise so that’s not unbelievable to me.
Biting fingernails off just makes me feel weak 😄
Hope it grows back fine OP! Flowers

It’s probably prophylactic if she told them it was when she was biting the nail. Human mouths aren’t much better than a dogs.

I think she was right to get the baby checked anyway though. There are some fungal nail diseases that can cause them to weaken and drop off.

Did I miss something?

"Omg you got an anti biotic cream. So there was signs of infection that you omitted in the OP?"

No. There were no signs of infection that I could see. Want inflamed or particularly red etc.
But gp knows better than I do so going to go with what they recommend.

I had no intention to downplay it. Baby seemed fine after, we weren't sure if going to doctor was necessary. Dw ultimately said she'd feel more comfortable if we went so she brought baby in. Got given an antibiotic cream to apply for five days. Not the end of the world but not something I'd be eager to repeat.

Don't really see it as anything to play down or to hype up. Just a fairly mundane event.

Baby still showing no signs of discomfort.

"Unbelievable - a GP appt almost immediately ? hmm"

5 doctor practice, not too much difficulty ever getting an appointment if you're happy to see either is available rather than your regular doctor
