As an adult to buy a Micro Sprite for the school run?

Walking at a fast pace with the kids, it takes us around 20-25 mins to get to school. One currently has a scooter but the other doesn't so we don't get there that much quicker. On bikes, I don't keep up very well unless I run then I end up arriving to the office feeling really sweaty. Considering Micro Sprites for the kids after summer to make the school run quicker. AIBU to get one for myself too? The website says 5-12 years but the weight limit is 100kg so I'm thinking it should be fine? I know smaller wheels are not as comfy as bigger wheels but I only need it to get to school, to the station and vice versa at end of the day! Considering the Sprite for me due to it being cheaper than the adult ones and smaller (storage). Does anyone have one?! They're still ££ so don't want to waste my money! Thanks!

I would buy yourself an adult one.

Bubblysqueak · 04/07/2019 21:29

My DC bought me a scooter for mother's Day, it's brilliant. It's the only way I can keep up with them when we're out and about on them.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/07/2019 21:31

All adults look like pretentious prays on scooters so I wouldn’t worry which type you buy.

RoundingError · 04/07/2019 21:42

I happily borrow dd’s micro sprite - it’s more than big enough for an adult. I would find it a hassle on the train though, but perhaps your trains are less rammed than mine!

Nan0second · 04/07/2019 21:45

I have an adult scooter for the school run. I’m pretty much the only adult that isn’t walking on the school run and occasionally I get funny looks.
I don’t give a shit though and love that we can wizz 1.25miles with no complaints and I can keep up! Plus I’m home 10mins post drop off!

nailslikeknives · 04/07/2019 22:14

When they outgrew the little micro scooters, I bought my kids the adult ones so that I'd never have to get them another one and so that I could scoot on them rather than carry them!

BogstandardBelle · 04/07/2019 22:35

I’m in France and it is totally, utterly normal for adults to use scooters here. They are very useful. In fact, for your situation, I’ve seen parents with an adult scooter that has a fold down stand for a small child to stand on :-). Scootering is a great way to get around. I’d buy and adult one that fold up though, if I was commuting with it.

cestlavielife · 04/07/2019 22:43

But the adult one unless you are within the weight limit for the kids one

Tartsamazeballs · 04/07/2019 23:37

I've got the micro flex deluxe. Me and my toddler have a blast playing together on them. I fully intend to use it on the school run when we get to that stage 😀 Happy to look like a pretentious prat on my scooter if it makes my kids smile 🖕🙄🖕

Twocupsofteaplease · 05/07/2019 06:07

Thanks all. I'll see if I can find an adult one secondhand. I don't really care how I look - and I don't think anyone else would either?! - because it's about being able to get to school and home in ten minutes rather than walking for 20-25min which means leaving the house by 7:40am and not getting home until 6pm (kids in after school clubs). We don't take the bus as the traffic means that isn't much quicker than walking. There are plenty of adults with scooters where I am but I've only seen adult ones not the Sprite which I had in mind.

Nailslikeknives how old are your kids? Reason for considering the Sprite is cost but also because mine are still youngish. I thought that by Year 7 they'd be old enough to get the bus on their own and/or would not want to scoot at all.

I should probably say marching rather than walking! At a less rushed walking pace, it would take closer to 30 mins.

I think they look silly

LovelyJubblee · 05/07/2019 06:19

We got my DS13 for his 6th birthday a Micro scooter that had extendable stick so he could use it and I could scoot home. It folds up too. Think was called a Maxi Scooter. He still uses it now. Very good investment.

SoyDora · 05/07/2019 06:24

I think they look silly

So what?

I’d look for a second hand adult one OP.

crispysausagerolls · 05/07/2019 06:27

So what?

What do you mean “so what”? So my opinion is valid and I’m allowed to post/OP asked! But equally if you mean so what like so what if it looks silly then you are right - if OP doesn’t care that some people think she will look silly she should definitely get one.

LynetteScavo · 05/07/2019 06:28

I really want to go to work on an adult scooter, but then people on MN say the look silly so I drive my car. Sad it's really hard to ride a bike in my route to work so if for some reason I can't go in the car I walk.

Please get a scooter, but I'd go hit an adult one.

SoyDora · 05/07/2019 06:29

Yes, I meant so what if people think it looks silly. OP has already said she doesn’t care what other people think of her riding a scooter upthread.

Solasum · 05/07/2019 06:33

I have an adult Hudora 14695 scooter, currently £56 on Amazon, so cheaper than Micro. It isn’t flashy, but does the job, and my DS loves scooting to school with me. Do remember to keep switching legs, though!

crispysausagerolls · 05/07/2019 06:37

soydora

I missed that bit! (Been up since 5 🤪) - yes if OP doesn’t care then she would definitely not be unreasonable.

Bouncebacker · 05/07/2019 06:41

My son has one but prefers his bike 🚲- I sometimes use it for the school and it’s fine (and fun!) but I’m 5’10 and it’s a little bit too small.... so try it first and check it’s big enough

Littlecaf · 05/07/2019 06:45

I think they look silly too......but

Now I’ve read your post I totally understand why you want one. My 4yo is super quick and actually a scooter would be great to keep up with him! Go for it.

Littlecaf · 05/07/2019 06:46

Half of my colleagues however have scooters to get them to work. (Central London slightly hipster if lovely colleagues!)

Auramigraine · 05/07/2019 06:57

Go for it OP! I don’t see many adults on them around here (a lot use bikes) but one mum I see uses their kids one on the way home and it looks so much fun! Whatever makes life that little bit easier I say x

MermaidUnicorn · 05/07/2019 07:02

Go to Decathlon. I've got an adult one from there for about £90. The Micro adult ones are ridiculously expensive. It's a great way to do a longer school run.

stucknoue · 05/07/2019 07:19

Why don't you all cycle ?
