Mistake on uni transcript. Aibu?

I'm not happy. Our grade transcript was released today and I've just seen I've been given 58 for both assignments in one module. I have had no feedback on this module and have been waiting 7+ weeks. I've contacted the lecturer repeatedly and had no reply from him (as far as I was aware)

I've just been poking around on Canvas on my laptop and seen that feedback has been uploaded. It's one file attached to the grades bit whice has feedback for both assignments and says I should have 68.

Wibu to contact the course leader and complain? I've no idea how long the feedback has been there or even if it's been counted towards my official grade. 58 will bring my overall grades down quite significantly (everything else is 70+) but I'm not even sure if it can be corrected now?

I’m coming out in a cold sweat at the idea of a student receiving a transcript with an incorrect grade on it. I would have a lot of explaining to do if that happened, and several formal letters to write

QuestionableMouse · 04/07/2019 20:51

Yes I sense a lot of panic behind the scenes, so to speak. I just want it sorted out at this point.

@HerSymphonyAndSong - sounds like your institution is similar to ours then. More and more work that used to be administrative responsibility being pushed on to the academics. They know we'll do it, because we care about the students.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 04/07/2019 22:03

Indeed. I am in an administrative role and many of us care too

Wrong thread. As you were

Isthisafreename · 04/07/2019 22:06

@HerSymphonyAndSong - Sorry. I wasn't suggesting admin don't care. There are fewer admin so rather than recruit more to do what used to be admin work, they change the system and push it on to academics.

Hefzi · 04/07/2019 22:15

Glad you got it sorted, OP - I once received a degree certificate for a degree I hadn't taken: that caused the Academic Registrar's Office a bit of a panic Grin

Things like this do happen: despite double and triple checking, errors can still sneak in from time to time - it's not great that it got to this stage without being picked up, but at least it's now being sorted and you're on track for next year. Keep up the excellent work, too!

Isthisafreename · 04/07/2019 22:15

@HerSymphonyAndSong - I'm a bit confused. You just said you were admin but earlier you said that you work on a large course. I assumed from what you said in that post that you were the one checking the marks. So is it an administrator that acts as module leader and checks the marks or the lecturer?

No reason for asking other than curiosity. In our university, academics take on the role of module and programme leader. We don't get any concessions in terms of teaching or research for doing that. Just interesting to see how it's done elsewhere.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 04/07/2019 22:42

our setup has dedicated administrative staff for particular programmes. This won’t be for long as I’m sure we will be centralised soon. For the programmes I look after, each module leader (an academic) and I sit down and check the marks together (sometimes for hundreds of students) and they then sign them off. The responsibility for the accuracy of the marks resides with the module leader but obviously I support them to make sure they are correct

It can be difficult to compare roles and processes across universities because the setups can be so different. I imagine our processes will change significantly once the support is centralised

Having admin support would make all the difference. We don't have admin, dedicated or otherwise, looking after programmes. It all falls on academics.
