To be irrationally irritated by the use of the term "Grab" for everything?

Grab a coffee, grab some lunch etc etc. Just why?

I knew it was getting bad when I noticed the instructions in the little LCD screen on a printer at work warned me "do not grab sheets until printing is complete"

I expect, like the current fashion for saying "wait" five times in every sentence this comes from US TV,

Maybe 'grab and pop' is the new 'snap and fart'?

arseabouttit · 04/07/2019 11:41

Although I suppose "do not remove paper" before printing is complete would have been better...

We have a shuttle service train thing near us
People call it the popper. 😫Poppets sweets used to annoy me for the same reason.

notso · 04/07/2019 12:08

YANBU
I also dislike chuck and bung.
On food idea threads posters are always chucking something in the slow cooker or bunging something in the oven.

PIL are fetchers and poppers.
"We just popped in to fetch you some a million runner beans"

"Shall I fetch the kids from school then we can pop them down to the park?"

"I'm popping to Aldi's (note the annoying 's) do you want me to fetch you to?"

SrSteveOskowski · 04/07/2019 12:42

@notso, I'm with you on "Aldi's".
MIL insists on calling it "Tesco's" Hmm

"Drop" or "Dropped" is the one that really gets me though.
Una Healy (former member of "The Saturdays") has now launched a shoe range. On her Instagram recently she announced, "Fresh kicks drop tomorrow". Una, you're an Irish culchie, like myself. Don't EVER say anything like that again! Shock

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 13:07

Ds was telling me about a new album being dropped. I said "dropped where?" I had NO idea what he was on about Hmm

Grab bag is really pissing me off recently... It seems every place that sells snack has them all labelled 'grab bag'

Wtf is it even supposed to mean? That's it's a portable size? Anything larger requires lifting equipment? I'm at a point now where it irrational winds me up so much I will avoid buying any product labelled as such.
