Was this woman unreasonable - dog weeing in public

This afternoon I was out walking my dog. He stopped to pee against a lamp post, by the side of the pavement (which I thought was a sensible place for him to pee). As I stopped a woman walked past me and gave me an absolute death stare. I asked her politely what I had done wrong and she gave me a lecture about how antisocial it was to let him pee there and suggested I take him into the road to pee "where there aren't people and children walking". I was a bit surprised as I have seen people allowing there dogs to pee in this place before but as this is my first dog (and he's a puppy), I wondered if there is something that I have missed along the way.

Someone told me recently how disgusting it was they'd seen a dog weeing on a wooden post (it was part of a structure in a wide open countryside outdoor place) I just didn't have the heart to tell her that the whole area was full of wild animals - foxes, badgers, birds, frogs...all weeing and shitting all over the place Grin

Ridiculous, my dog chooses walks and bushes as well as trees of course ... but I don't let him against cars, flower pots etc.

I was going to post separately on AIBU about something similar. I think YAB(a bit)U.

I work in a GP surgery and pulled up outside to park a few weeks ago. Just at the same time as a dog was doing a massive wee, right outside the surgery steps, trailing down the pavement to the exact place I was getting out of the car. As I'm getting older, my poker face is getting more shit, the owner saw me looking at the ground where I was about to step. She quickly muttered an apology and hurried off before I could get a word out. And the dog must do it at other times too! There are pee stains all over the pavement right outside the surgery steps. Surely the owner can encourage the dog to move on a few feet either way? Angry

I think owners in general should have a bit more consideration for others in these instances.

I have a bitch as well and she will only pee on grass.

She always pees in the garden just before we leave for a walk and will then pee in the first field we walk through.

She refuses to change the routes we take - we have about three different walks we do if we're walking from the house - and I'm pretty certain it's because she has her weeing places and she likes to have them available.

She will also always do a 'last pee' before home when we get back to the field nearest to the house

She never pees on the pavement. Fortunately there's a lot of grass near where we live.

I'm thinking of washing the pavement down with something citrusy - might it work to put the dog off peeing right outside the surgery steps? This is annoying me more than it should Blush but I hate the thought of patients having to step over streams of piss to get into the surgery.

@Finfintytint yes it’s true about lampposts (worked for a manufacturer) it’s takes a very long time though by which time it would usually require replacing anyway

The woman is being weird. You invited her weirdness by asking her what was wrong. Next time someone gives you a death state for no good reason you should just ignore them. Don't get dragged into their weird world.

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/07/2019 04:10

I'd rather walk through dog piss than the puddles of spit and snorted up phlegm that cover the paths around here Envy

My parents used to puppy walk guide dogs & the pups were trained to do a 'busy' in the garden before they went out for a walk. Not sensible for a guide dog to drag it's blind person to every lamp post/tree/gate post etc!!!

I think she was definitely bu here. But what's the consensus on peeing on bushes? I watched a lady let her dog pee all over the bushes outside my garden and it's a new house I've moved into so I wasn't sure if I'm being unreasonable to ask this to stop!?! My gut feeling was its a bit rude. And I have a 2 yo dd who plays out there.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
