To force DS3 to wear sandals?

Lighthearted (I think) he won't wear sandals, and it makes me so sad to see him wearing socks with trainers in this heat. He's going on a trip with the nursery today, and I was hoping I could get him to wear the sandals, also refusing to wear any of the new T-shirt's, shorts and summer hats I've bought for him. Argh 😤

Send some of the heat my way please Smile

Another one from the middle east, with a child who wont wear sandals.
My oldest wears ones like plobsalt posted, but my youngest either wears his black, leather, school shoes, or a pair of trainers, or goes barefoot.
Honestly, it's not a battle worth fighting. Let him wear what he wants in his feet.

Nothing wrong with socks and sandals btw. Given that we're talking about a small child, I would suggest comfort is more important than style.

3luckystars · 03/07/2019 14:28

I hate sandals too. Good for him, standing up for himself.

Kitsandkids · 03/07/2019 14:35

I don’t put my kids in open toed sandals. I remember when I worked in a nursery and one summer went on loads of trips with the 3-4 year olds. We were forever having to stop because stones had got into sandals! I vowed then never to put my own children in them! My toddler wears t-bar canvas Clarks Doodles (with socks) most days.

SavoyCabbage · 03/07/2019 14:37

Perhaps he is worried those sharks will chomp his toes off! They are quite scary sandals!Grin

Lucked · 03/07/2019 16:04

Oh I bought an expensive pair of Keen sandals with covered toes very like the ones posted - they went to the charity shop unworn. Just let him wear what he wants.

lilpumpsmum · 03/07/2019 17:59

I'm not surprised he doesn't want to wear those godawful sandals Grin

Ah just leave him be. Nothing wrong with trainers and socks

TantricTwist · 03/07/2019 18:00

Nothing wrong with trainers and socks, far more protection for his little toes.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/07/2019 18:01

Mine once wore shorts T-shirt and snow boots for nursery all through the summer. Not worth the argument imo

plobsalt · 03/07/2019 18:04

I'm not surprised he doesn't want to wear those godawful sandals

That made me do a loud laugh.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 03/07/2019 18:04

DS (4) won't wear them either. In previous years I got him into them, but this year he just insists on his trainers - they are saturated when I take them off at the end of a 10 hour day at nursery Sad

Gth1234 · 03/07/2019 18:04

I wear socks and trainers. I hate sandals, and hate no socks. Black socks with shorts (or white) . It's not a problem.

Mumof1andacat · 03/07/2019 18:16

I could never get my ds to wear sandles as a toddler. He didn't like them. He just wore socks and trainers and was fine. We went abroad twice when he was 3 and 4. Still wore socks and trainers. I wasn't prepared for the argument from him

HoppingPavlova · 05/07/2019 12:35

I wouldn’t wear those eitherHmm. Young kids here always wear the type of sandals plobsalt showed when out and about in summer. No way they would be allowed to wear the ones you pictured at nursery equivalent and they can’t really run about in them that well either. The ones here are more like supportive podiatrist ticked jogger/shoes with bits cut out.

Also, still finding it really hard to believe it’s that hot your child can’t wear good quality closed in shoes that breathe well if necessary. Again, said by someone who lives in things where possible but always put little kids into proper shoes that were good for their feet and never blinked an eye at sending kids off in their full leather school shoes when over 40deg in summer. No kid ever came home and said they had a shit day as their feet were hotConfused.

the trainers with the cutaways look OK. I might wear something like that, but I don't like the normal open toed sandals.
