To block YouTube on the TV

We bought a smart Tv at Christmas.

We have an open plan kitchen/diner set up.

DSs (13 & 10) watch YouTube ALL THE TIME. It's driving me insane. The noise, the banality. I think it's rotting their brains.

I need some rules around it to limit their time but am thinking of blocking it on the TV altogether.

They can both watch on their iPads if they really want.

If I do have a blackout for a while, how long will the horror last before they give in and start playing chess and creating their own plays Grin

At the moment they are not allowed to watch YouTube after dinner - but family TV is allowed.

I banned it from tv in public areas. All the dc have a way of watching YouTube elsewhere in the house whether it is iPads or a games console. Can’t say it gets rid of the banality entirely we still get subjected to some awful cartoons regularly but we are no longer forced to listen to people screeching and shouting.
Dh and I and older teen dd get to watch far more tv than we did before as well. So I would say do it. I didn’t block it just banned it completely they get to watch it in the living room if they are off school ill but that’s the only time.

YANBU, some of the stuff on YouTube is simply mind rotting. I've deleted the apps from the tablet - my DCs are younger and they watch these stupid videos of children opening toys.

We blocked it from the router and locked the app on the tv so no YouTube for my dc either unless I put the password in. I did it when that moms thing was going on and have just left it like that since. I have no regrets with it!

I've put a password on it so they can't turn it on.

Not only is it mind numbing - they've just become really anti-social. Arguing over who's watching what and then refusing to do anything else.
