No toilets at sports day.. anyone else find this weird?

Okay so maybe just me but does anyone else find this odd? Little ones sports day coming up, weather forecast says it’s to be HOT. Sports day lasts approx 2.5 hours. Due to the weather I certainly will be drinking lots and assume everyone else will be. A letter has be sent out to say no parents/siblings etc will be allowed access to the school for toilets. Anyone else find this odd? There is NO public toilets within walking distance either and I don’t want to have to keep hopping in the car to drive ten mins to the nearest supermarket every time my 3 year old needs a wee! 🤔 in my history of attending my children’s sports days I have never ever come across this problem 😂

Wild wees for 3 year olds are perfectly acceptable surely?

SnowsInWater · 02/07/2019 23:55

That is just weird, if parents/siblings are invited to attend then sure facilities must be provided.

That sounds like a way of discouraging people from bringing younger siblings to me.

It could be a security thing as well. If everyone is outside then having random people wandering round the school isn’t ideal.

I don't know really, I've been to dozens of sports days and I've never needed to use the facilities. I think most people can go a couple of hours without the loo, especially if they've been given warning.

RosaWaiting · 03/07/2019 00:21

Schools seem to get crazier by the hour.

sacope · 03/07/2019 00:24

Probably a safeguarding issue.

God everything is a safeguarding issue these days; I understand the need, but sometimes common sense is lacking.

Sports day at our school isn't 2.5 hours, it's all day with a picnic lunch in between. School opened up the dinner hall side door so parents can use the toilets attached to that. Children go into the school via their usual door and the in between door remains locked.

How odd.
I'd want to find out why out of curiosity.
Unless the visitor loos are currently out of order or something.

No toilets is a pet peeve of mine. Not everyone can wait. Anyone with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis will likely feel worried and tense if they cannot get to a toilet quickly. I find that more and more facilities such as parks and playing fields are being built without toilets. I realize it is a cost issue etc. but it becomes an issue that makes me stay home when I am not 100%. I have missed out on a lot. Children get these diseases too.

hanvicteacher · 03/07/2019 00:40

I am sure if a 3 yr old is bursting they could escort you

Bluerussian · 03/07/2019 00:55

Are there bushes around the sports field? If there are, there will be several dead grass patches after sports day. Dress yourself and your three year old in school uniform so you blend in and can use the kids toilets.

Most people can go that long without a visit to the loo, especially if they don't live far from the school. However there are always exceptions, especially for small children, and they should be catered for.

PregnantSea · 03/07/2019 01:00

Not everyone can wait to use the toilet. Some people have medical problems that mean they need access to a toilet, not just a bush. I would unfortunately have to decline the sports day invite as I am one of those people.

If you have a boy, just take a fruit shoot bottle and discretely let them wee in that.

Sunshine93 · 03/07/2019 01:16

I would write in and say you feel this discriminates against people with disabilities but I think I might be one of THOSE parents.

hanvicteacher · 03/07/2019 01:22

@magneticmumbles

And the gals?

Kokeshi123 · 03/07/2019 01:30

Probably a safeguarding issue.

I'm not someone who has a problem with toddlers weeing in pubic, but it would be quite strange to ENCOURAGE this in the name of safeguarding...!?!?

It's more likely a "we don't want to have to clean extra-smelly toilets afterwards" issue. Personally, I don't like sports day and would use this as an excuse to either not go or to go only to "bits" of it and make a break for a coffee shop halfway through. But yes, what about people with health problems who may need the loo urgently?

echt · 03/07/2019 01:36

Probably safeguarding. Maybe not enough staff to supervise the toilets.

@hanvicteacher
I wasn't offering a solution for the girls. That's why I said it was for boys. What's your solution for girls?

It will be for safeguarding and also so no laptops are nicked.

HelenaDove · 03/07/2019 02:13

Anyone with an overactive bladder isnt going to be able to wait that long.

Ironically this type of condition is sometimes caused by not having access to a loo during the school day when we were younger.
