Having bonfires ! 🤬

So fed up with the selfish twat! He did it all last summer at least once a week! He's started again and he's had 2 within 5 days.

Its boiling hot the sun is out and I cant even open my fu..ing windows at 25 weeks pregnant!!🥵

I've had this problem. The actual situation is that you can only burn if it's not causing a nuisance. If it's effecting you its causing a nuisance! The council should advise you to keep a log of when he burns and the effects to use in court. They should also advise you neighbours that there has been a complaint and point out the potential consequences. In my case the second visit from the council representative seemed to calm things down. Five years on we are almost civil in the street! Don't put up with it, keep plugging away at the council.
There is no excuse to burn these days either take rubbish / garden waste to the recycling center or pay someone to take it away.

LakieLady · 02/07/2019 18:33

@WorraLiberty - it takes around 30 minutes in our incinerator!
If I'd realised how efficient they are, I would have got one years ago.

WeedsAndMoss · 02/07/2019 18:39

Have you spoken to him?

Nothing wrong with spraying a hose in your own garden GrinWink

Tighnabruaich · 02/07/2019 18:40

Could he be a serial killer, burning the evidence ...?

mumwon · 02/07/2019 18:49

I believe even if there is no direct ruling against bonfires if they burn & smoke you out regularly & its that toxic you can complain to council as it is classified as a nuisance - you need to film & log incidents & ring environmental health at the council & have a chat

Bubblemama · 02/07/2019 18:49

@Tighnabruaich

That's the first thing I thought too, I've got to lay off the crime channels on YouTube Grin

HeadfirstForHalos · 02/07/2019 19:03

If it's right by your fence I'd be turning the hose on it every time!

Luscinia · 02/07/2019 19:20

My council website says it's anti social behaviour and to report it to environmental health department.

HJWT · 02/07/2019 20:14

@Bubblemama my DH thinks he's a big time drug dealer, you know the ones right at the top of the chain that don't have to do anything but the money keeps coming in! He doesn't go to work and is always on the phone 🤔

Why have a bonfire when you can just go the tip? Have I missed something? We can get rid of all our green waste there for free.

Frankola · 02/07/2019 20:55

Please oh please open the window and throw a jug of water out Grin

HJWT · 02/07/2019 21:09

@Frankola my neighbour went round he said ring the police if your that bothered 🙄

Nah he'd have pigs if was getting rid of bodies.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/07/2019 21:51

Do you live in a smokeless zone? Some urban areas are and it restricts what you can burn. Might be worth a chat with the council.

echt · 02/07/2019 22:04

When I lived in London, we had a NDN like this, constantly pruning his plants snip snip every bloody day (until they died) and burning little bonfires constantly. We managed one bonfire a year - 5th November. He stopped eventually when we asked him to - it was a nervous, time-filling thing with him, and he was definitely burning household rubbish, not garden waste.

In general I'm amazed that there's stuff to burn in the garden - wouldn't it be green?

Glad to live in a total bonfire -ban area (local laws to prevent bushfires). Now I think of it, despite this being Australia, I've never smelt a charcoal barbecue on the go, always gas.

HJWT · 02/07/2019 22:34

@Troels he wouldn't have anywhere to cut the body up! Its a new build estate everyone would see him!

Just remembered OP a while back someone on our street was repeatedly burning their rubbish. Eventually a neighbour went to the local fire station and asked for advice. The fire brigade went round and lectured them on bonfire safety and toxic smoke and they stopped doing it. I don't know if they're meant to do that in an official capacity but it worked!

Pinkyyy · 03/07/2019 07:56

Does he clean your windows afterwards?
