I cannot find decent clothes for DD!

She's 12, always outside riding her bike or climbing trees, often in the woods opposite our house. That's fine, I'd rather that than her stuck indoors all day like her brother
But I just cannot find clothes that withstand that kind of activity! She needs jeans with titanium knees or something. I guess part of the issue is that she wants to wear jeggings because they're stretchy, but they are totally useless. Constantly snagging on brambles or tearing on her bike pedals.

AIBU to think that clothes for kids, and particularly for girls are just no good these days?!

I don't know why they make tiny shorts for children. Their skin is so soft and scratches easily. Polarn O pyret have good quality clothing.

CMOTDibbler got there before me - Lands End iron knees trousers. Reinforced. Best we've had.

Xiaoxiong · 02/07/2019 18:37

And they do iron knees leggings too!

Lwmommy · 02/07/2019 18:42

Gap kids would be my recommendation, more solid than lots of the other brands

TeenTimesTwo · 02/07/2019 18:43

I came on to say Mountain Warehouse, but Cherry beat me to it.

BertieBotts · 02/07/2019 18:48

Try places like mountain warehouse. They do really nice clothes and they are a bit more rugged than new look etc. Any sports or outdoorsy type shop should do. I find they are less pointlessly gendered as well.

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2019 18:50

Lands End are very good for sturdy kids clothes. Maybe not titanium, but they do iron knee leggings. They usually have more iron knee stuff, but not so much now, I guess because of sale time.

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2019 19:01

X post with several!

DarlingCoffee · 02/07/2019 19:11

Boden do good extra thick leggings for girls.

Redwinestillfine · 02/07/2019 19:47

Don't Lands End do extra reinforced knees? I think they call them Iron knees....

Sunshine93 · 02/07/2019 19:53

I was going to say polarn o pyret but I think they only go up to age 12.

Try m&s. Their leggings and trousers are much better quality than shops like next but not much more expensive

Sunshine93 · 02/07/2019 19:54

H&m also have a good range of shorts. Their trousers aren't particularly durable though.

Mitebiteatnite · 02/07/2019 20:02

Lots of good suggestions, thanks! My main issue is that DD is almost 13 and a lot of shops don't even go up to that age in girls. Gap is a good shout though, I hadn't thought of there and I'm sure they go up to her size. Polarn O Pyret will be too small, and I think H&M too. I checked Fatface and their biggest size is 12-13 but I could try the smallest size women's I guess.

Thanks for all the tips, and glad it's not just me!

Oh and there's a mountain warehouse in town so might pop in there too!

polarn on pyret cuts big though. i’m a size 8, just over 5ft and can easily wear their biggest size
