Children in airport etiquette

Sideeye47 · 02/07/2019 15:50

What’s your take?

Currently waiting on a flight and children are banging on the back of the metal seats DP and I are sat on. No visible guardian about. Shrieking and running around before circling back to hitting our seats.

I understand children are children and children travelling can make them restless but I don’t think children over 5/6 should be running around an airport screaming and irritating other already tired and bored passengers.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just ask them to stop knocking your seat.

I dont think children have to be quite or not run around a bit. Many Adults don't care about their behaviour and aren't reprimanded over it.

It doesn't help that the times people have to get to the airport is getting earlier and earlier.

As long as the area they are letting off steam in is safe.

butteryellow · 02/07/2019 19:05

knocking the seat isn't on - just ask them to stop.

Running around though? If it's in a corner out of people's way, I don't see the issue. Mine are virtually undetectable on the plane - issued with ipad/headphones/haribo and they're good for a european flight (possible application of hot chocolate or a sprite at some point) - but moving around the airport terminal, or if sitting in departures waiting, yes, they do play rather than sit. Wouldn't let them do it in the lounge. If we're in a lounge then it's snacks and ipad.

problem1234567 · 02/07/2019 19:10

I'd get annoyed if a child was banging my chair.
It shouldn't be down to the person who is sitting there to tell the child to stop, that's the parent's responsibility.
Likewise, people shouldn't be telling the OP to move - that sets the wrong precedent.

AmeriAnn are you on a goady wind up or are you just (ironically) really ignorant? Don't correct people, it just makes you look like a dick. As well as being rude as fuck.

I speak English and you're not my "better" Hmm If you ever correct my SPaG I will explain it's due to a brain issue, I've lost some functions like remembering my grammar (which I used to be shit hot on) and sadly it can't be helped.

Don't you think you would indeed feel like a dickhead after that? I can assure anyone reading would think "dickhead" when they read your posts.

Feel free to apologise for being rude.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 02/07/2019 19:44

Whatever your views on this subject, why do some posters have to resort to foul language and swearing? It is not necessary and just shows lack of decency. I hate some of these words used on here and quite honestly have to look most of them up as I don't understand what they mean.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 19:56

Which words do you have to look up MilkTray? I'm genuinely curious.

Mumsnet allow swearing as long as it's not at someone
(eg fuck off - not ok.
I fucking hate Peppa Pig - Ok)

We are all adults here and I don't find swearing half as offensive as people correcting other people's SPAG or personal insults. That isn't necessary.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 19:57

Actually now I've read your post again I'm worried you were taking the piss (sorry Wink) and I misread the tone?

Please put me out of misery :)

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 20:02

why do some posters have to resort to foul language and swearing?

because they can't come up with any valid point, reasoning or argument.

And they feel clever because they use them. My personal favourite is "fuck up xxx poster". Oh, you've won the discussion then, have you!

Clearly I am not very clever Winkas I genuinely can't work out what this means "fuck up xxx poster"?

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 20:09

what this means "fuck up xxx poster"?

nothing
what it was supposed to mean was "fuck off insert name of poster ".

whoops and double whoops Blush Grin

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 20:10

Camping - you see, shit like that is way ruder than swearing. Who do you think you are to criticise someones grammar? Hmm

Perhaps make a useful contribution to the thread, instead of simply posting to insult the OP?

CampingUnderOakTrees · 02/07/2019 20:13

I think it’s quite helpful actually.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 20:14

AllBirthdaysMatter oh the irony. It's painful. It actually hurts Grin

And that, people, is why you don't criticise errors etc in other people's posts Wink

(I agree just saying "fuck off" is rude, but I genuinely don't see anything wrong with an adult saying fuck in context. Eg "I can't believe I just fucked my post up so badly" Grin)

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 20:16

Its helpful in making people think that's a poster for my "posters I don't like spreadsheet" when they read your posts, that's for sure. Not helpful in any other sense.

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 20:16

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles

I am merely replying to someone.
We can all write fuck, twat, cunt, but how is that helping anyone? It just shows that you can't come up with anything better.
I stand by what I wanted to say, if the only point you can come up with is "fuck off" it means you have lost the argument 🤷

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 20:17

Anyway Op, are the kids still kicking or have you stuffed them into Trunkies and slung them onto the nearest conveyer belt? Smile

Biscusting · 02/07/2019 20:20

Being kicked by some excitable kids is starting to seem more appealing than being trapped in close proximity to some of the arseholes on this thread.

tillytoodles1 · 02/07/2019 20:24

I've just come back from my 10 yr old grand-daughter's school concert. The little boy next to me, about two, started to get bored and was bouncing up and down on the wooden floor and I couldn't hear what the teacher was saying. I put my finger to my lips and looked at him, but from his reaction you'd think I'd slapped him.

He climbed under his mum's chair and started crying. As she was passing me in the row the little sod stamped on my foot,

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/07/2019 20:37

(I still really really want to know what bad words @MilkTrayLimeBarrel had to look up Grin)

Lemonlady22 · 02/07/2019 20:46

Gatwick North has a play area.....right next to the Quiet areaConfused

The Urban Dictionary is your friend.

There are many fora on which you can't swear (fuck grammar is hard). Here, you can.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 02/07/2019 20:56

All sorts of things which I don't understand - recently I have had to look up teabagging, tossed salad, woke, twerk, and others which will come to me later!
