To ask about your silent reflux babies

My baby is 8 days old, he is my 5th dc but large age gap of nine years between him and my next oldest, it feels like I have forgotten everything about having a newborn.

Anyways, he is always crying, except when starting a feed and when asleep. From birth he would only take 1oz formula and it would take an hour to get him to take that. I became convinced he had a tongue tie, midwife checked and agreed, his tie was snipped three days ago. He now takes 3oz a feed but...he isnt any more settled.

He hates being held in a cradle position, hates going flat on his back and although he takes more feed now, its still hard work. Takes the first oz well, then begins to making gulping noises and bursts out crying. He tenses up and his legs shake when trying to feed. So it takes half an hour to get a feed into him, at which point he is shattered from the effort and falls asleep, then wakes up frequently grizzling. When he is on his back, its like a constant stream of milk from the corner of his mouth. He sneezes a lot and seems to keep his legs held up to his stomach a lot of the time.

He had a bit of a rough birth, with cord wrapped around his neck twice, so tight they had to cut it off his neck whilst his body was still inside and he also had shoulder dystocia so was stuck behind my pelvis bone, meaning he had a ventouse delivery. He was really badly mucussy and still sounds congested a lot of the time.

Would you say this could be silent reflux? I have made a gp appointment for later today.

Didn't want to read and run as I'm just going out but I wanted to give you a big hug and say congratulations.

It does sound like it could be reflux. my lo was an awful feeder and would scream whenever she was flat on her back. Hers was linked to cows milk intolerance so when I was breastfeeding I had to watch what I was eating. We had to combi feed her from 10 days due to a tounge tie and other issues and give her goats milk formula which seemed to help a bit.

We raised her cot and changing mat etc at one end so she was always at an angle with her head up.

Definitely speak to your gp - I hope your gp is better than mine X x
