Neighbours complaining about the size of my binbags

AIBU to think that I have the right to use 15 litre bin bags? I mean what difference does it make? 2 x 8 litres bags v 1x 15 litre.

Surely it’s more environmentally friendly to use one bag than two for equal amounts of rubbish?

Anyway this all kicked off because a neighbour complained about the size of my rubbish bags.

For context there are 2 normal sized bins and 1 large one between 4 flats. I usually fill 1/2 of 1 normal sized bin (being just me) wheras the other flats have at least 2 occupants per flat.

Yes that’s a heck of a lot. Are you recycling? Why are you generating so much waste?

If the bins are getting full, then I can see why the size of the bin bag becomes an issue. You can move smaller ones round easier and fit them into corners in a way you can't with a big one. If the council won't take it if the lid's not down then that becomes an issue.

Think of a jar: it might fit a couple of large rocks in, or 4 smaller ones. In total it's the same volume inside, but the smaller ones fit better into corners etc. Yes, that's not quite the same as presumably the bin bags are more flexible, but moving them round too much can split the bags and it still not as easy to fit in as two smaller ones.

*I wonder where the OP lives that life is so perfect neighbours bin bags are enough of a worry to start a disagreement.

Round here it's knife crime*

So I live in lewisham which is knife crime central but it still hacks me off when my lazy neighbours put entire cardboard boxes in the non recycling bins.

We use 22l bags for our tiny under-sink kitchen bin. 8l must be the size of a supermarket carrier bag I’m guessing?

So confused by all the people saying 15l is huge!

Glad I'm not the only one. 15l is small. 8l is probably the right size for a bathroom bin.

I agree. Walthamstow is fairly stabby, but we still make time to niggle our neighbours about the bins. No 15litre nonsense here though.
