Irritating jokey emails from an unlikely source clogging up my inbox every day. What would you do?

In New Zealand we had these next door neighbours ...
Nice family but very square and 'geeky' ... very sensible, the type that if, on the rare occasion, we had people round after midnight, they would let us know their displeasure ... He is a Scout master, she is a sensible PTA type ... very nice, but not like DH and me ...
Anyway, the friendship was very 'neighbourly' but nothing more.
When we moved we gave them our email address to keep in touch with updates on their boys (lovely boys, older than my children but very kind to them etc) and our children.

We haven't had any personal emails from them since we left (which is fine) but I get sent at least 5 crap jokey emails from them a day ... every day.
And the funny thing is that many of the jokes are really rude ... which to start with cracked me up as I would have thought them the least likely people to send such emails as they just don't seem the type ...
Anyway, am beginning to get fed up with it ... boring, not funny and sometimes a bit sick ...

How do I tell them to stop? Bearing in mind that they are still technically our neighbours as we still own our house there (we have tenants that they have already complained about).

PS. Please be gently on me as I am an AIBU thread 'virgin' ... ta

Can't you report the address as spam in your mail program and then it'll just divert them to spam. and since there aren't any personal ones it doesn't matter.

WideWebWitch · 27/07/2007 09:06

And that way you don't have to tell them to stop but you don't have to read them.
And if they really want to get in touch with you they'll have to make an effort and ring you or something.

taxidriver · 27/07/2007 09:06

you can block emails too from certain senders.

Katymac · 27/07/2007 09:06

Why not just create a "rule" so that when it arrives it goes straight in the bin?

That way they will never know

Tortington · 27/07/2007 09:06

Aha ... this all sounds good ...
But the techno disaster I am I have no idea what you are talking about ..
How do I 'report the addrss as spam' in my email progam?
Would they know if I actually 'block' them?
And how do I set up a 'rule'?

GryffindorGHOSTY,

Wickedwaterwitch has the best idea. You should have setting in your email system that you can set up to filter out email from chosen email address or known spam. This way you don't get the jokes and you don't have to worry about offending anyone either.
