AIBU to believe...

That those that vote YABU or YANBU on an extremely obvious YANBU/YABU post should be banned from Mumsnet...sometimes!?

I love this site and the difference of opinions. It's extremely refreshing. Just the other day I voted YABU on a post only to find out later on that I was BU. And said so myself on the thread!

That said, there are some posts where the OP is beyond reasonable/unreasonable. I don't want to link any posts but for example, OP asks 'AIBU to ask if I should leave DP because he beats me if I don't do the washing up by the time he gets home?' and there is a percentage of voters who say they are being unreasonable. Or 'AIBU to report my neighbour to social services because they don't give their DC's 15 portions of fruit and veg every day?' and there is a percentage of voters who say the are not being unreasonable?

Apologies for any typos...I work nights...been awake since 7pm last night...I don't think I'm being unreasonable though!

I accept that IABU though. I know not everybody reads the full thread (like I did once).

I also know that some people genuinely have completely opposing views which is possibly due to their background/cultural differences... whatever.

All I can say right now is that I was unreasonable to start this thread!

YABU to be so reasonable Grin Ruining AIBU!

pigsDOfly · 01/07/2019 19:18

I often post on a thread without pressing the vote button.

Should I be banned?

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 01/07/2019 19:21

@pigsDOfly Not at all! I do the same

When you get a shambolic OP you will get a shambolic bunch of answers.
I sometimes just vote randomly when I cannot understand what the AIBU is as in this case

MitziK · 01/07/2019 19:35

Don't forget that the site architecture is a little clunky crap, so some of those clicks will be from trying to scroll past on a phone/tablet or leaning their wrist on the trackpad.

pigsDOfly · 01/07/2019 19:38

Huge relief to know I'm not going to be run out of town on a rail Grin

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 01/07/2019 19:54

@MrsTerryPratchett AIBU to think that OP'S who accept they are BU are annoying!? It just brings their post to an unsatisfactory end!

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 01/07/2019 19:58

@BlueThesaurusRex I've done that too!

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 01/07/2019 19:59

@UrsulaPandress I read my OP back to myself and to be perfectly honest, I'd say the same...can I blame the heat? Please!?

OP posts:
Charlieandthechocolatecake · 01/07/2019 20:02

@pigsDOfly Well...you should be, just like myself, I voted on a perfectly commentable thread the other day that had no replies yet many MANY votes.

It really annoyed me that nobody replied (including myself) yet still voted. You are a terrible person. As am I!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 02/07/2019 13:15

I'm being unreasonable...ouch!

This reaction suggests a level of over-investment.

I think most people who get a 90% ‘YANBU’ vote, or even a 75/25 split, are not going to stress out about the other 10 - 25% or be inadvertently swayed by said votes. The idea that MN should ban people for note voting the ‘right’ way is ridiculous and unworkable. How would you arbitrate it?

Bluntness100 · 02/07/2019 13:19

As much as I genuinely puzzled by some of the responses I read on here, and how vastly different peoples opinions can be, I often put it down to lack of critical thinking, not reading rhe op or the full thread properly and just putting a quick response.

I don't think they should be banned though for it, that's a bit much.
