EX pays maintenance every month, he transfers it and I accept what he pays and trusts that he is being truthful with the amount however I received a text saying that his work messed up and he didn't get taxed this month so he's paid a bit more but it will reduce next month because he will be double taxed.

Am I right in thinking that Child maintenance is calculated before tax and would you question this?

I dont think it is anything to do with this....if his work has messed up his tax and isnt paying as much this month so therefor will be paying more next month...he is spreading the cost of maintenence

He will have less take home pay next month, so making it easier on himself and giving you more this month.

Either way it isnt fair on you not to have a consistant amount..he should be absorbing any monthly changes in his wage not you

Are you going to be out of pocket? If not, then this is a non issue, payroll do occassionaly screw up.

He has over paid the Op this month becasue he will be sort of funds next month. It is a non issue. The OP is not out of pocket, waiting for month.

I don't really understand what the problem is?

HodorHodorHodorHodor · 01/07/2019 15:37

He has worked child maintenance payments out after tax, not before. This is what I'm questioning, not that he has changed the amount that he is paying this month.

So you've interpreted his text as implying that he calculates his CMS based on his net salary, whereas we have all (at time of typing) interpreted it as he has more money this month so will be paying you more and less next month so he'll be paying you less. Is there a backstory for you to jump to this conclusion?

To answer your question yes it's calculated on gross pay minus pension contributions.

Im lost Confused

^^ this comment implied he had and entire untaxed months salary, but he knows he will be double taxed next month, which will leave him short, so he’s giving you more this month to cover next months shortfall. (I think)

that's what I am understanding too, and that's totally reasonable!
