To wear ankle socks with trainers?

I've noticed Anna Whitehouse doing this and think it looks great (on her anyway!). She often wears a nice pair of trainers with normal ankle socks, paired with a dress or a cropped trouser leg, so the sock is fully visible and part of the outfit.
I hate "hidden" trainer socks that cling into your foot for dear life and need to be rescued from having slipped off your heel a million times a day (or is that just me?!)...
However I am somewhat (very) challenged in the style department and fear if I did "visible sock with trainer" I would just end up looking like I've given up or like I am trying too hard?!
I've been thinking of treating myself to a new pair of trainers...
Could this work for a "normal" non "insta ready" mum who is a bit frazzled, not very fashionable, and often looks like she got dressed in the dark?

Another who's much older than 30 and wears trainers with socks. I never even knew it was supposed to be a dilemma.

I always wear ankle socks with trainers even when i'm wearing shorts/skirts. through it being cool then not cool then cool again I haven't even noticed ha!

I always wear trainer socks with trainers, don’t like how I look in ankle socks, they just look weird on me and old fashioned, especially if wearing a short skirt.

Ifeelbloodyawful · 30/06/2019 20:03

especially if wearing a short skirt

My days of short skirt wearing are behind me now. I have saggy knees! Blush

It depends entirely on how you wear them
Cool funky socks. Cool funky trainers. Cool funky dress etc etc etc

Anything could make the cool not cool
Be VERY careful

I wear ankle socks with trainers with everything! I'm another who didn't know it was supposed to be a dilemma. I'm early 30s. Never worn trainer socks in my life Grin

PinkBuffalo · 30/06/2019 20:33

justbreathing I accepted long ago I'm never going to be cool. I just wear what I like so long as I am comfortable Smile

Justbreathing · 30/06/2019 20:35

@CandlesOnTheHearth
I only meant be careful if you’re trying to be cool! If you’re not, fine! Crack on with the not caring! I’m with you on that Grin

You might want to ignore my opinion as I had to look up Anna Whitehouse 🤷🏻‍♀️ (And she didn’t have socks on with her trainers in any of the photos)

I prefer trainer sucks myself, but some are better than others (for staying on) but I think thin white ankle socks can look ok but not fluffy spitybobes or bright colours etc unless you match the funky look with the rest of your ‘outfit’

Obviously the need to be turned over st the top and not pulled up!

I think, unless you are very stylish and colour coordinated, it will look a bit socks with sandals!

Why not try a different brand of trainer socks? Mine don't slip and are very comfortable. Or wear boot style trainers? (?high tops)

Yeah, I think this is where I'm at to be honest. I'm under no illusions that I'm "cool" and I'm wary of looking like I'm trying to be!!

Where do you all get your trainer socks from? The ones I currently use are from Amazon and are the very low cut kind, as I wear a lot of pump style trainers which are quite low at the front/top of the foot, if you know what I mean?

OP, try ASOS. I think you can pull of a lot of looks with their fashion regardless of your size, age, build.
