To be annoyed with Royal Mail?

BigRedLondonBus · 30/06/2019 11:42

I bought some items online from a website some of the clothes were unsuitable so as I don’t have a printer I decided to take it to the post office and pay my own money to return it. This was on the 21st of June, well it has never been delivered! Royal Mail were absolutely useless, and told me the only thing I could do was wait until the 6th then make a claim but apparently that can only be up to £50 (the clothes were worth more than that) Aibu to be annoyed? I don’t understand how it can be lost. I sent it signed for.

You should have checked the terms and conditions to see how much the items were insured for when you posted it.

They usually ask you the value of the items being sent.

Soola · 30/06/2019 13:12

Clearly states cover up to £50

Soola · 30/06/2019 13:13

Same with second class signed for

www.royalmail.com/personal/uk-delivery/signed-2nd-class

Why didn’t you ask what was the correct method to send the clothes back?

Or gone to a library and printed off a returns label

Soola · 30/06/2019 13:14

What does it say on the tracking?

Baritriwsahys · 30/06/2019 13:20

Of the clothes were worth monte you should have chosen appropriate cover. Not much point moaning about it now because you didn't insure the value.

BigRedLondonBus · 30/06/2019 13:29

They didn’t ask anything about the value, I rarely shop online so don’t often have to return so wasn’t aware and like I said they didn’t mention anything. The site suggest themselves Royal Mail as one of the returns options?! On the tracking it just states that it’s at my local post office and will be updated once it’s been received so it has never updated since the day I posted it.

It's not really up to them to tell you though. It's the same as people that underinsure their cars/houses/phones - always someone else's fault.

I get Royal Mail have lost the parcel and that's shit, but the onus is on you to use the correct service in the first place.

BigRedLondonBus · 30/06/2019 14:15

Like I said the site themselves advise Royal Mail as one of the options. But I ok I’m unreasonable to be annoyed that Royal Mail has lost my parcel ConfusedHmm

If it helps I sent a recorded deliver parcel and it went missing in the post but was returned to me three months later. The outer box was scuffed and dirty and the address had been scribbles over. It was the correct address so no idea why they couldn’t deliver it!

So they must have come across it at the bottom of a pile and then just returned it to sender!

It was a piece of China that I sold on eBay.

I had refunded the buyer and claimed compensation so it was a nice surprise to get it back.

I still had the buyers details so got back in touch and we had a laugh and I went and met her at her place of work in London and have her it as a gesture of goodwill as she has been so disappointed when it got lost!

So it may get retunes back to you providing you put a return address label on it.

NoBaggyPants · 30/06/2019 14:20

Does the retailer offer their own RM returns service? If so, it's a different service to the one you purchased, they offer different services to businesses.

It's right to be annoyed at RM that your parcel has been lost, but annoyance about the lack of compensation cover is with yourself.

Gizlotsmum · 30/06/2019 14:22

Royal mail have always checked if the parcel is worth more than £50 when I have sent anything tracked. However you can be annoyed but there is not much you can do till the 15 days (is it?) that royal mail need before it is classed as lost. Then raise a formal complaint. What have the company said?

Soola · 30/06/2019 14:23

@BigRedLondonBus

You can bang on all you like about them losing your parcel but it’s not unreasonable when you consider the huge volume of parcels they receive for an occasional one to go missing.

You did not bother to check if you were sending by the correct service for the value of what you were sending so for all I know you may not have put the right address or stuck the label on properly.

Baritriwsahys · 30/06/2019 14:28

But I ok I’m unreasonable to be annoyed that Royal Mail has lost my parcel

No. Not unreasonable to be annoyed they lost it. Unreasonable to be annoyed you are not covered for the full value.

BigRedLondonBus · 30/06/2019 14:37

I haven’t alerted the company as I don’t see how it’s there fault? I clicked to return my items then got the address and took it to the post office, don’t think the company will do anything about it being lost.

OP posts:
Gizlotsmum · 02/07/2019 14:15

Not saying it's the company's fault but if they know the items you have returned are currently lost in the post they may extend their time to accept them and mean you aren't out of pocket.

MiniMum97 · 02/07/2019 14:27

The company may reimburse you if you have proof of posting I would contact them.

TransFannyUltrasound · 02/07/2019 14:32

Email the company a picture of your proof of posting receipt.

Which company?

If you mean the company OP bought them from, why would they? They are not going to be out of pocket because the courier lost a parcel!

If you mean Royal Mail, OP can put in a claim but the cover is significantly lower then the value.

sacope · 02/07/2019 14:34

Email the company a picture of your proof of posting receipt

They will email back and tell OP to take it up with Royal Mail.

Star81 · 02/07/2019 15:00

First of all stop panicking.

Sometimes it can take a few days for a company who have received a parcel to process it through their returns system so it is possible they do it fact have it and the Royal Mail system hasn’t updated its delivery.

If it’s not yet been received there is a certain number of days before Royal Mail will declare it lost at which point you need to go after them for the compensation. However, this will only be at the maximum to which you paid for at the post office.
