AIBU to cut hairs and wear a wig?

That really. I am so sick and tired of dealing with my hairs and absolutely envy men who get in shower, get out and are ready to go.
I have thick, coarse hair, which takes ages to dry. Because they are impossible to style (due to being coarse), I keep them semi long and just dry them straight. It adds extra half an hour to my morning routine to dry and make my hair more or less presentable. Sometimes I wash them in evening, but it still takes ages.
So sick of that and considering chopping them off and wearing a wig to work/out and all the times generally.
My DH thinks I’ve lost my marbles. But he is clueless how tiring this hair maintenance is.
AIBU to considering a wig?

Never worn one but believe they can be hit and uncomfortable to wear?

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 29/06/2019 20:20

How many hairs are we talking here? 1? 2? 7045?

Purplestorm83 · 29/06/2019 20:22

Give over Smellbow, I suspect English is not the OP’s first language, it was perfectly clear what she meant!

Would a shorter tight cut suit you? I did this last year and it is the business! The hairdresser can thin out the heavy weight at the same time. Needs a regular cut for sure, but it's so worth it. Wash n go mostly now.

I think I would try change your cut and style before resorting to artificial hair myself. But that's up to you entirely.

Chickpea99 · 29/06/2019 20:24

True.. english is not my native language. Realised my mistake after posting, but don’t think it really makes that much difference on subject though.

I don’t know if I’d cut it off. Maybe you could braid it and use a wig over the braids?

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 29/06/2019 20:25

@Purplestorm83

I know and I was just kidding! Op, maybe consider a pixie cut if that’s your kind of thing?

Topsecretidentity · 29/06/2019 20:26

Perhaps start by cutting your hair to a manageable length?

I wear a wig everyday. The real hair ones are just as high maintenance as real hair 😂 if not more because you have to lay the lace down regularly. The synthetic ones can be low maintenance but can look horribly fake if you don't know what you're doing.

But all wigs are a nightmare for swimming, working out, basically anything wet, hot and/or sweaty.

DitheringBlidiot · 29/06/2019 20:26

I wonder about the comfort level of a wig, and the upkeep of the hair underneath. However if you have the money, perhaps you could order a couple of styles off of amazon or similar to give them a go

RandomMess · 29/06/2019 20:29

What about chemical hair "relaxing" or extensions, may be easier?

codemonkey · 29/06/2019 20:29

I like how you're referring to hairs rather than the more usual count noun, hair. It makes you sound ever so exotic.

Chickpea99 · 29/06/2019 20:30

Outsomnia .. I suppose changing style and styling daily would be an answer to dealing with coarse hair.. but I suspect it would just add to maintenance. I’m really tempted for wash and go style, but I don't think very short hair suit me (I’m very self conscious of my looks) and with coarsiness it would take time to style daily...
Just toying with idea. Perhaps need to buy a wig first and then see how it feels..

Wigs are really hot and uncomfortable, and need maintenance too. What about just a short haircut?

Outsomnia · 29/06/2019 20:38

Best of luck Chickpea99.

Try a few methods and see what is best for you. Shorter and tighter to your scalp is probably the best, don't worry I bet it will look fab on you! You will be so relaxed with less maintenance you will blossom and love it!

Have a look online for pixie and short cuts and so on. I cannot recommend getting rid of the weight of hair ever. Best thing I ever did. And it's easier to transition to grey too, which is working out ok for me. Not too sure though, but will give it another few months! It is being bleached in the sun anyway at the moment.

Hope all goes well.
