To wear tampons only?

Rowennaravenclaw · 29/06/2019 17:38

I lived in fear of TSS as a teen. I was religious about wearing a pad for at least 8 hours a day and never wore tampons at night.

At some point, probably in my early 20s, I stopped thinking about it and put convenience first. Now tampons is all I ever use, one after the other, as I hate the feeling of pads.

Obviously it’s a risk, but how unusual am I in this?
Has anyone ever had TSS from a tampon?

And before everyone tells me to get a mooncup, I do plan on trying one soon.

Less of the sanitary wear shaming please

Oh please,I've heard but all now !!!HmmGrin

Fuck me, the thread is about tampon use, I only use tampons or a moon cup as I don't like pads because they feel like a wet nappy to me ,I don't realise that needed spelling out. Wear what you like ,there are always plenty of threads on here about people saying they can't wear / don't like tampons and don't know how people can wear them, same thing. Nobody's shaming anyone ffs.

**it all

INeedAFlerken · 30/06/2019 10:40

I have never heard of a single person getting TSS

I know 2 people who have.

Still incredibly rare, though.

Purplerain16 · 30/06/2019 18:10

Try using organic tampons. They've never been linked to TSS. Not only that but they're better for the environment and have fully stopped any cramping I used to get
I use ones from www.ohne.co (yes, just .co) x

Sorry for the massive TMI:

I've actually "lost" a tampon before without realising and hence had it inside me for a couple of weeks.

I only noticed when I started getting smelly, brownish discharge. Nothing happened even then. Except major disgust on my part. Retrieved it myself and nothing more happened. Discharge stopped pretty much immediately.

I've never known anyone who had TSS.

IhaveALooBrush · 30/06/2019 18:40

I've been a tampon only user with pads as an occasional double protection for over 25 years.
I think TSS is extremely rare. I also think the tiny risk is minimised by keeping your hands clean for changing and not exceeding 8 hours wear out of a tampon.
I have broken both these rules in the past.
And I'm still living.

I always used tampons but found them uncomfortable after having DS when I was 35. Difficult to insert and I could feel it in place so went onto pads. Use the ultra thin ones which suit me fine, I'm 45 now and well into peri. Wouldn't swap back to tampons now.

SushiForAmateurs · 30/06/2019 19:29

Yes of course I do HmmConfused

It doesn't seem as if you do, given you said:

"Urghhh I don't know how people wear towels"

LoafofSellotape · 30/06/2019 19:57

I don't know how people do lots of things- skydive, run marathons, have tattoos and piercings, handle snakes and insects, wearing towels is only one of them. Now give over and stop looking for offence wear none was meant .

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/06/2019 20:02

I only ever used tampons, since about age 14/15. Never liked pads. I find all underwear uncomfortable for a start without adding extra bulk! Now I use a Saalt cup - definitely do the Put A Cup In It quiz before buying any cups, we’re all different in there and one cup does not suit all. Mooncup and Divacup are well known brands but there are loads of others.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/06/2019 20:04

@TheTrollFairy mine are from Amazon. Do try the quiz putacupinit.com/quiz/

SushiForAmateurs · 30/06/2019 21:37

Why would I be offended? I don't wear pads. Just pointing out your rather silly complete contradictions of yourself.

OP - I know you said you would, but try a cup. I didn't get on with mooncups - as they alway, always leaked on day 1 no matter what I did. I ended up always having to supplement with a liner, which completely defeats the purpose of trying be a bit more sustainable.

So not offended just being an arse then ? Righto.

Twooter · 30/06/2019 22:23

I’m just jealous of all you people who can get by with just using one or the other! I’ve always had to use pad and tampon ( now cup) due to leaks.

caringcarer · 30/06/2019 22:38

I always had dreadfully heavy periods so had to have both a super plus tampon and a pad for reassurance.

Prettylittlebumblebee · 30/06/2019 22:46

I started using a Mooncup before I fell pregnant. Amazing. Will never, ever go back to using tampons and pads when I have my periods again. So many advantages including saving the environment

IndieTara · 01/07/2019 00:00

Wish I could have used just tampons when I had periods would have loved that freedom and lack of worry.
