To want Wedding reading to be a surprise

My friend has asked me to do a reading at her wedding. I suggested three pieces and df chose her favourite. She has printed the words in the draft order of service. I would prefer it to be a surprise. Am I being a diva and would Ibu to ask df to produce order of service without the words?

Are you actually serious and a frustrated barista-actress who is confusing your friend’s wedding with an audition?

Honestly, as long as its not from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/06/2019 16:54

It’s not all about you. Suck it up.

Hecateh · 29/06/2019 17:28

YABU

Dandelion1993 · 29/06/2019 17:30

The reading is mostly always in the order of service.

I know that my nan kept ours as it had the whole reading and a list of the bridal party in it.

Leah2005 · 29/06/2019 19:08

I love these replies. I accept I am totally a diva and will keep it zipped! It honestly isn't a reverse although to save my shame perhaps I should have said it is. Blush

Now I want to know what it is!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/06/2019 19:10

Only your second post on the thread, and you have accepted you are being unreasonable, without a fight? You can’t do that, @Leah2005 - you will break AIBU!! WinkGrin

TitianaTitsling · 29/06/2019 19:11

Is it something wildly original?!

littleyellowwellies · 29/06/2019 19:13

Is it the "these are the hands..." one?

It's been at almost every wedding I've ever been too if it is lol

SleepingStandingUp · 29/06/2019 19:15

Yup sorry OP, diva. Its your friends wedding, not opening night at the theatre. People won't read along.
Perhaps ad lib a rap in the middle 😉😉

FuzzyPuffling · 29/06/2019 19:15

Is it that dinosaur one?

codemonkey · 29/06/2019 19:15

WTAF. Unless you're Carrie Bradshaw reading an original poem you need to get over yourself.

TitianaTitsling · 29/06/2019 19:17

Dinosaurs fuzzy??

Yawninfinitum · 29/06/2019 19:17

You mean a surprise for the guests?
And do you mean she has printed out the whole reading?
If so-
I’m with you. Normally I would expect the OOS to say the name and who wrote it and leave it at that
Seems weird to have everyone mentally saying the words along with you.

If you mean not put the actual title of the reading then YABU!

Malvinaa81 · 29/06/2019 19:18

Well I think you have your answer.

Try to be a little less self-centred if ever asked to do another reading.....

OralBElectricToothbrush · 29/06/2019 19:31

Bloody hell. Does ANYONE listen to wedding readings other than the bride and groom?

They’re usually dull, go on far too long, read by someone unaccustomed to public speaking and just meh.

This. Ditto speeches. Gawd, no one cares, just get to the food and drink part.

@TitianaTitsling A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton. It’s a children’s short story that works surprisingly well at weddings!

NauseousMum · 29/06/2019 19:53

Yabu and making her wedding about you.

Leah2005 · 29/06/2019 20:19

I want to say I was worried about making a mistake and everyone knowing because they have it on front of them. Actually it's because I am a diva- no one will ever read as well as me - and I want all the accolade for choosing the most perfect reading for their wedding. I may wear a bridesmaid dress too although I haven't been asked to..... I wish I was a barista though.

theanswer love Edward Monkton in particular 'Penguin of Death' and 'Hamsters of Doom' a patient once gave me a card with the 'Lady and the Chocolate' on it! Will have to look it up!

TheAnswerIsInABookSomewhere · 29/06/2019 21:58

@TitianaTitsling yes it’s so so cute! I heard it for the first time as a wedding reading, came home and immediately looked it up. Such a lovely story.
