Are you asking if they would need a passport to travel?
If they are travelling outside the UK then as far as I know it's a yes

DannyWallace · 28/06/2019 18:40

Actually, ignore me, I don't think they do need a passport. I'm no help 😂

gabsdot · 28/06/2019 18:41

Technically you don't need a passport to travel between Ireland and Britain but if you're flying you'll need a passport as ID for the airline and there is passport control at Dublin airport that everyone had to go through.
if you travel by car on the ferry they don't usually check passport. I'm not sure about foot passengers. It's been a while since I travelled as a foot passenger.

ny20005 · 28/06/2019 18:42

Depends who you are travelling with. Ryanair , you must have passports

Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 18:46

More information required.

From where? With who?

isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:47

You don’t need a passport but adults do need photo ID and take kids birth certs if they don’t have photo id. We had a flight re-routes from Belfast ( nothing needed for kids as with Dublin) but came through immigration at Dublin and there was a bit of fuss as we didn’t have the kids birth certs and I have a different surname to them. Waved us through in the end.

isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:48

They usually don’t check kids at all, but always ask for a driving license etc for adults.

mcmen71 · 28/06/2019 18:49

From Belfast to Heathrow with Aerlingus just packing and 2 passports out off date June 19 I'm just so stupid not checking Travelling on Monday

OP posts:
isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:49

If you fly into Belfast there is no sort of immigration at all from U.K.

isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:51

You’re absolutely fine with Belfast - it’s like flying to Edinburgh. I fly there 4/5 times a year with kids. Photo id for adults needed but doesn’t have to be a passport. I would take birth certs if you have them but no biggie if you don’t.

isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:51

London to Belfast I mean, kids in tow, no probs.

Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 18:52

Northern Ireland then.

Massive difference.

It's fine without a passport.

mcmen71 · 28/06/2019 18:54

isthatapugunicorn thanks for your help I have the birth carts packed. I wont sleep now to I get there.

isthatapugunicorn · 28/06/2019 18:56

You’ll be grand! I hardly get my own id checked half the time! And if you cross the ‘border’ you’re also fine til bloody Brexit anyway ...

Piglet89 · 28/06/2019 19:00

Here is the official line from Aer Lingus themselves:

“Citizens of Ireland and Britain under the age of 16 don’t need a photo ID if travelling with their parent/guardian.”

www.aerlingus.com/travel-information/passports-and-visas/travel-to-from-britain/

I would phone them to double check with them your specific circs and put your mind at rest but, if travelling with parents, I think they won’t need ID.

Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 19:02

That refers to Ireland. The OP is travelling from Northern Ireland, which is is part of the UK.

coconuttelegraph · 28/06/2019 19:04

Rather than not sleeping for 3 days why not ring the airline and ask them?

codemonkey · 28/06/2019 19:08

Social media's great for a range of opinions but wouldn't this have been really, really quickly answered with a quick google? Confused

trotesio · 28/06/2019 19:13

They probably will not need a passport but you should check with the airline.

EasyJet, for example, do not require any ID - just an accompanying adult to verify who they are.

mcmen71 · 28/06/2019 19:18

I did Google and got the same info as kind of that posted the info under 16 can travel without passport. Thanks piglet89.
And I am Irish but travelling fro. BELFAST ni nearest airport. Thanks all OP for your helpful advice.

Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 19:19

Piglet gave advice about travelling from Ireland to the UK. You are travelling within the UK. It's not the same.

mcmen71 · 28/06/2019 19:35

Baritriwsahys it says Irish citizens which we are thanks for your help.

OP posts:
Baritriwsahys · 28/06/2019 19:37

Yes, it does, but it is referring to travel between Ireland and the UK. Which is not Belfast to London.

stucknoue · 28/06/2019 19:38

You don't need a passport but you do need photo id not 100% on child requirements so check with your airline/ferry company. Ryan air had a list of acceptable id

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 28/06/2019 22:08

Not sure if Ryanair flies from Belfast but I know from bitter experience that they only allow passports and not just photo Id - although it is really unclear on their website. Even flying within the uk I have found that you need some sort of photo Id - even for children.
