To say that flatpack furniture is dangerously addictive?!

I'm moving into a new house and have been putting together a lot of flat pack. Never done it before as it scared me. But it's easy! There's something so addictive about the tear of a fresh box, taking out the bits, reading the instructions and getting stuck in... and the satisfaction of seeing your finished piece in an hour or two...

Or am I just a weirdo??? Grin

No I quite enjoy putting it together too Blush

WhispersOfWickedness · 28/06/2019 18:13

I love it! Our house is 95% ikea, so I have had a lot of practice Grin

Villanellesproudmum · 28/06/2019 18:18

No love it! Impressed you read the instructions! Ikea have actually just won a contract to start building houses in Worthing from next year!

FriarTuck · 28/06/2019 18:22

Just wait until you get the one where the holes don't line up properly, where there are screws missing and when you get to nearly the end and discover you've put part on back to front and have to take it all apart. You won't be so addicted then Grin

codemonkey · 28/06/2019 18:23

No. I love it. Ikea is literally heaven for me.

codemonkey · 28/06/2019 18:24

I remember our removal men (who take apart and reassemble a LOT of flat pack) saying that Ikea is the best.

MissB83 · 28/06/2019 18:27

FriarTuck, I actually made a bunch of mistakes on the first one I did, one piece got put on four times before it was correct Blushbut weirdly it didn't take the enjoyment out for me, I still found it very absorbing!

Today's piece was the Ikea Kallax and it was fine to build but I HATE going to Ikea, it just stresses me out as I can never find what I need and it takes so long to escape... and you always spend too much!

Haha, I bought my DD a bed with underneath drawers fro
Ikea. I but 4 using the instructions but unfortunately 2 of these 4 were not compatible to the bed. I had to return said drawers and rebuild another 2 (so I built 6 in total). This time round it took me about 5 mins as I knew where every piece went and every tool needed. I also knew the best order to build regardless of institutions (they had been long thrown) . Grin

May I suggest a good jigsaw puzzle instead - cheaper, takes up less room and just as much fun (provided you don't pick a puzzle with lots of sea or sky) Grin

HollowTalk · 30/06/2019 13:54

I really love making up flatpack furniture but couldn't believe how much more I enjoyed it when I used a cordless electric screwdriver.

TheQueef · 30/06/2019 13:58

I am a flatpack ninja.
Give me two minutes and an Allan key and I can build it.
I buy Lego sets (for grown ups) inbetween flatpacks.
Keeps me sharp. Wink

I am actually going to have a crack at a jigsaw again! I normally do crafting in front of the TV: knitting, cross stitch, crochet etc.

I make DP do it now. The two times I attempted it were so disastrous I ruined the furniture pieces entirely Blush. I followed the instructions but somehow still had spare pieces left at the end. The worst thing was the bedside table, the drawers weren’t functional at all because I fucked it up so much!

Ilikewinter · 30/06/2019 15:40

We bought a whole wardrobe set from Ikea and was considering using their assembly service but DH thought I was mad....so we arranged for delivery and it came in 23 boxes!!!! ...... fast forward several hours later and wardbrobes up, drawers built etc. I was very proud of us 😊

Sn0tnose · 30/06/2019 16:01

Flatpack is a dirty word in our house. We nearly got divorced after assembling the last piece.

So we’ve reached an unspoken compromise. I agree to assemble it together on a day we’re both off, he goes to work and I assemble it myself in peace. He pretends we didn’t discuss assembling it together. Everyone is happy.
