Do you actually cater if you go self catering...

We just use our apartment as somewhere to sleep and hang on the balcony and we use the fridge for wine and beers and snacks... and the makings of light lunch or breakfast...

My DM is horrified at what she considers a waste of money, seemingly you should cater in SC....

In her defence she is 80 Grin and a war child.

I don't. I'd have coffee, fruit and soft drinks in but that's all. On holiday I just eat out all the time.

I actually quite enjoy going to the market, using my dodgy Foreign language skills ( plus a lot of pointing) and choosing what to eat that evening. If I don’t want to cook we go out though and although we could eat out every single meal if I wanted sometimes it’s too much effort after a long hot day on the beach or whatever to get dressed again after a shower.
It’s whatever suits you

When the DC were small we always went SC and we mainly ate in. We'd give the DC tea, pop them into bed and then sit in the garden with wine and eat our own meal. We would eat out in a restaurant maybe 4 times in a fortnight.

Now that it's just dh and me I thought we would eat out far more on holiday but actually it hasn't worked out that way. We love villas that are very secluded with gardens that arent overlooked at all. The problem is that these tend to be away from villages and restaurants. So if we go out to eat we have to drive and not drink. Eating in is easier.

Last year we had a villa with a gorgeous garden overlooking the sea but a few miles from.the nearest restaurant. So we mostly ate in which consisted of bbq chicken or seafood, salad bread and wine. We ate overlooking the sun setting on the sea.

Lunches were always out at a restaurant somewhere or at a beach bar.

I really enjoy cooking though and dont see it as a chore. Plus we keep it super simple on holiday. For example we buy things like coleslaw and hummus whereas at home I'd make my own.

We did once go sc with another family and the other mum insisted on making bread from scratch! Hmm

Yes, usually, but it depends on the set up. I actually really like cooking my own food. I'm a good cook and it's usually better than what we'd get out in many places in the UK. It's certainly better than the barely edible stuff you'd get at an all inclusive. But it depends where we are and if I have children in tow (obviously, yes, if a family holiday).

We usually self-cater breakfast and dinner on a family holiday because staying out later to eat dinner would be a nightmare and I want to sit down and drink wine and not be chasing after/shouting at small people who are bored of sitting in a restaurant. Lunch we would eat out. But if I don't have children, I would eat out every single meal because it's a damn luxury to eat a restaurant meal in peace, even if it cost so much more.

Feeding a mixture. Always eats breakfast and then maybe light lunches, barbecues etc. Any cooking we do tends to be easy cooking , usually pizza. Can’t be bothered to cook a full English roast when on holiday!

We almost always stay in villas or apartments and generally self cater. Always breakfast, rarely lunch as we are often out most of the day and eating out in the evening depends on where we are as a drive to restaurants means no drinking so will usually eat in.

We are away for about a third of the year so eating out every night would be both hugely expensive and very boring.
