To ask a question about decking?

We are having an area in the garden decked in flat, thin oak decking.

Because of the width of the area, they will need more than one board across - if that makes sense.

What's the best way to fit them? Stagger them? Or have one seam down the middle or in another place?

I have no idea about this stuff! Thank you

Stagger them, definitely. A uniform line is much too noticeable whereas staggering disguises the joins.

Stagger it.

Decking is the work of Satan. Tried to kill me once. Slippier than paving slabs on an icy morning.

Oh dear. Well, we won't go out on it if it's icy.

Thanks - stagger it is.

Don't go out if they're wet either, I feel like a right twat every time I go a over t on ours. And the rats, three houses with decking and rats appear every time. I love the look though, and staggered sounds much nicer from your description

Although to be fair, smooth decking is apparently far less slippery than grooved

We've just had decking fitted. Had it smooth side up as it's easier to treat and clean making it less slippy. The guy who did ours fitted it diagonally so that he wouldn't have to use more than one board, avoiding the join.

Interesting - diagonal! The area is still too big to do that without a join
