To think we can take our country back?

Here we are - stuck in some kind of batshittery where we're going to have Boris Johnson as our PM, we're going to leave the EU and our only 'friend' will be a man with a shit toupee who thinks sexual assaulting women is something to brag about.

I've been watching it all unfold and feeling helpless while the country I love descends into madness at the hands of a bunch of mainly white, rich, male arseholes who don't even know what the truth is anymore.

But it's occurred to me that there are only 160,000 Conservative party members. In the whole scheme of things that's nothing compared to the number of Mumsnetters!

I know the Tories have been shysters but imagine if we could join the party and push it towards compassionate Conservatism.

I realise this still wouldn't be everyone's bag - but surely it would be better to have a party of compassionate Conservatives than the shite we currently have moving ever further to the right.

It's too late to avoid Brexit and too late to avoid Boris but if anyone on Mumsnet who has ever previously voted Conservative joined the party we could organise, join forces with lovely Rory the Tory, put our best 'stern Mother'* faces on and tell the hard righters to fuck off to some horrible little niche party which will never get into power.

It's £2 a month to join - together we could actually make a huge difference to the country while putting the gender balance to rights at the same time.

Isn't it worth it just to see the faces of Mark Francois, The Mogg et al?

Imagine what we could do to turn around the party's education policies!

Think Momentum but made up of nicer human beings with fairer tactics and better hair.

What do you think?

*You don't need to be a mother to do a stern mother face, I don't have children yet as TTC

You and your racist views wouldn’t get my support 🤮

My racist views?

...because I mentioned white, rich men?

To be clear I have nothing against white people (I am one!), rich people or men. I just don't think the 'group think' that results from being so heavily biased towards one demographic is good for policies or the country.

People can sit and sulk about no party representing them but unless we get involved and make a change we can't moan IMO.

Who are we expecting to come to the rescue? Confused

Those who vote Tory and think that the Tories are slightly more to the centre than the Lib Dems would then form a slightly right of centre party. I don't think the UK has descended into madness, I think people are throwing off the group think of the Blair years, followed by Blair light with the coalition.

I do object to being labelled far right, just because I am right of centre.

wheresmymojo · 27/06/2019 15:47

That is a good point. I am an ex Tory voter and I won't vote for them until they have a major change to their policies

Chicken and egg. Why would they change their policies at the moment when those policies are what their membership want?

I do object to being labelled far right, just because I am right of centre.

There are some Tory members (and voters) who are right of centre.

There are quite a few who are much further to the right and who are discussing on Tory Facebook groups that after Brexit is done the next move will be to deselect all of the One Nation Conservative MPs like Rudd, Stewart, Clarke, etc. They want to take the party further to the right.

Lots of UKIPers have apparently joined the party over the past 12 months for this purpose.

The Torres being left of centre is possibly the most batshit thing I’ve read on here.

ComeAndDance · 27/06/2019 15:58

scaryteacher what do you think would make a political party or a person 'far right'?
What sort if policies for example?

MrPan · 27/06/2019 16:02

This is more nonesense. Tories or 'ex-Tories' should never, ever be trusted. And...Brexit is still avoidable, totally.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2019 16:25

Better to join the Labour party and vote to get rid of Corbyn. If ONLY there was sane realistic leadership of the Labour Party then we wouldn't be in this shit situation

This ^^

It comes to something when the best line the doorstep canvassers have is to assure us "he'll be replaced soon", but that's what happened round here last time

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 27/06/2019 16:49

I'll just leave these here for fans of 'lovely Rory the Tory' to ponder.

The Tory party are the utter height of loathsomeness and under no circumstances would ever get a penny of my money (not just for the fact I'm disabled for life and don't have two pennies to rub together under this disgusting system).

JockTamsonsBairns · 27/06/2019 17:33

Hmm Rory Stewart has voted in line with the party whip, which is exactly as he's required to do.

Mehmum · 27/06/2019 17:35

THE only thing the Tories are left of is Russia.

Mehmum · 27/06/2019 17:35

On a map.

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 27/06/2019 17:49

@JockTamsonsBairns

So then it doesn't matter if he comes across as being lovely or not. As a Tory he is consenting to the austerity caused by the party's policies and is every bit as bad as Johnson, McVey, Raab and the like..

Triglesoffy · 27/06/2019 18:05

Here is a bit of info about Jacob Rees Mogg’s MIL. The poor lamb lost £10million in the recession so her wealth dropped from £35m to £25m. You’ll be pleased to know that it’s back up to £45m now.

@bogglesgoggles I'm guessing you're currently sitting underneath a marula tree, helping yourself to overripe fruit, because you sound completely off your tits.

I'm just in utter despair at politics in the UK right now. I can't even be bothered to argue anymore. My local politicians are amazing, wonderful people, who do so much to change and help, for no reward. Compare that to the crop of MPs we have at Westminster and I genuinely do want to weep. There are indivdiuals in all parties I do have respect & admiration for, even if I disagree with them, but the current lot of people who hold sway just make me feel there is no one who speaks for me politically. That should make me more politicised. It doesn't, because no one is listening outside the echo chamber.

MyOpinionIsValid · 27/06/2019 18:37

@Triglesoffy What does JRMs mother have to do with the price of eggs ?

BogglesGoggles · 27/06/2019 18:55

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea ? For preferring BJ to socialists?

Triglesoffy · 27/06/2019 19:06

Well, she is clearly not worried about the price of eggs and neither is Jacob.

countrygirl99 · 27/06/2019 19:40

If the Conservatives are left of centre Farage us a communist

cavalier · 27/06/2019 20:02

Corbyn or BJ ...well BJ It’s that bad .. I would never ever vote for Corby ...

GrumpyCatLives · 27/06/2019 23:49

This isn't a bad idea actually. And you're right, the Tories could be swayed on self-id. Smile

Darkcloudsandsunnydays · 28/06/2019 00:03

The OP is a racist and the post is racist.

However I believe in free speech.

Where is your fact based evidence for your second paragraph containing the term ‘white, rich, male arseholes ‘

justarandomtricycle · 28/06/2019 01:32

Don't you know darlings, there are no Tory mumsnetters. No Brexiteer mumsnetters. Nobody here would ever read the Daily Mail. Any more than we would shop in Asda or live on under 50k pa. :)

We're all as one, naice working class heroes. :)
