Is it a good base for selling things?
Has anyone here successfully sold lots of stuff?
Any tips? Thanks

Royal Mail no longer do recorded delivery it is called "signed for" it also includes tracking
there is standard mail which is insured upto £20
there is "signed for" which gives you a tracking number and generally you can see the signature online this is insured upto £50 this tracking number is perfectly acceptable to ebay and will proof delivery for seller protection it is not the signature that proves delivery but the postal worker scanning the barcode when delivered
then there is special delivery this can cover upto £2000 for a price it guarantees delivery the next day should be used for gold silver antiques etc
What is really important and I have said it several times is you must input the tracking number into ebay once it shows up as delivered at ebays end seller protection works
however Royal mail international signed for is not the same as international tracked and signed they cost the same bar a few pence

in all cases delivery is sellers responsibility and it is the seller that needs to fill in royal mail forms and claim for missing post if it does happen it is simple and straightforward you need to wait 10 working days after postage

I sell as a business on ebay I know how seller protection works

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/06/2019 17:01

You get a tracking number when sending royal mail small parcel. It shows when item is delivered. I was under the impression this was acceptable to ebay?

Almahart · 28/06/2019 17:29

Thank you TeacupDrama that had never occurred to me!

Hi I need to ask how I sell items at fixed price on eBay They seem to automatically be going on as auction items and eBay have charged me for puting a buy it now amount on each item !
How do I sell them at fixed price ? Is that the same as puting them on as buy it now without the auction facility
I can’t see the fixed price phrase anywhere!!
Can someone help? Thanks

OP posts:
TitchyP · 03/07/2019 21:22

Yes fixed price is the same as BIN but you have to disable the auction function. I only use BIN and don't get charged any listing fees.
I think you do get charged if you add a BIN to an auction though.

MyFokMarelize · 03/07/2019 21:48

In fact, eBay will automatically issue a refund even if the buyer signs for their parcel... ridiculous policy

Absolutely not true. If you can provide tracking details eBay will always side with the seller. Just this week I have had to buyers attempt to make claims of non-receipt. Tracking numbers were provided for both transactions and their cases were close with no demerit to my account and no refund to the buyers.
Follow the rules and you'll be ok.

Of course - misdescription is a different kettle of fish and we all have to swallow the occasional idiot who thought they were getting a Merc for the price of a Micra! Be absolutely meticulous and precise in your descriptions and photograph absolutely every angle!

Pearplum12 · 03/07/2019 23:46

Thanks Titchy P - that’s what I’ll do from now on
I’m hoping I don’t get charged for automatic relistings also if there are any . As I say, I’ve only a few items on for sale ..

I have 2 quick questions- payment was received today from a buyer and the email from eBay said I had to click on a paypal link in the email

  1. PayPal then asked me if I want to use my card with no limits and I have clicked yes- hopefully this is secure?
  2. Also, it asked me for my mobile and email for the card, but I didn’t provide that . Hopefully the funds will go into my account ok? Thanks

browzingss · 04/07/2019 20:36

Is it definitely from eBay/PayPal and not a 3rd party/phishing scam?

rachbower1989 · 04/07/2019 20:38

Sell lots of things, look out for the £1 listing fees and be carful as the listings are normally free but you get charged at the end of the month the fees!

GreasedPiglet · 04/07/2019 20:42

@Pearplum12, I'm concerned that the email was a scam - please check it out.

Pearplum12 · 04/07/2019 20:56

There’s one from [email protected] and one from [email protected]
Panicking now! Are both those email addresses legitimate ?

OP posts:
cavalier · 04/07/2019 21:00

Selling on there can be a minefield at times
EBay usually favour the buyer if a problem 🙄

Pearplum12 · 04/07/2019 21:02

Greasedpiglet- can you or anyone have a look at those 2 email address above Are they legit?
Really worried

I'm not sure, but I know that DH got an email that seemed to be from PayPal once and was nearly taken in by it.

I think you should navigate to PayPal through your usual route (ie not through the email link), and change your password immediately. Then check your recent transactions etc.

Fontella · 04/07/2019 21:15

I’ve been on Ebay since 2011 as a buyer – only started selling last year.

Up until recently it’s been a trouble free experience for me. I guess I’ve just been lucky. No problems buying and no problems selling. Great feedback and 100% record.

I read all the warnings on here and on the Ebay forums, but me it was all hunky dory and I guess I got complacent.

Then it all started to go tits up.

Bought some earrings. They were crap. Immediately crap when I received them – they just fell out. Contacted the seller, who whinged a bit but said yeah oh, raised a case, sent them back at my own expense, went on holiday. Seller just ignored the fact I’d sent them back, Ebay closed the case because I hadn’t responded within the time limit (very short), never got my money back, so paid for the earrings and then paid the bloody postage to send them back. Ebay refused to re-open the case and the seller completely ignored every attempt to correspond with them. I couldn’t even leave negative feedback because it was all closed off.

In the last few weeks I decided to sell some bits and bobs, clothes, shoes, ornaments and made over £200 (lovely) but I’ve had one case against me and will have to refund. Fortunately it’s a nice lady I’m dealing with, but still a lot of faff and hassle and I will be out of pocket.

My advice is to take loads of pics – the limit is 12 I think from all angles. Give a detailed description and point out every flaw or fault. If you are washing, polishing, repairing anything – do it before you take the pics not after (as ‘not as described’ can be used as a valid reason for return).

Do tracked, signed for postage on every transaction over £10. It is so easy for a buyer to say they didn’t receive something, and you don’t have a leg to stand on. Under £10 you can take the hit but over that it can start to become very costly.

Finally, as a seller, don’t leave feedback for anyone until the transaction has been successfully concluded. They got the item, they are happy with the item, then you can deem it a successful transaction and move on.

Pearplum12 · 04/07/2019 21:58

Greasedpiglet- Thanks for that link!
I’m so annoyed with myself - the emails look extremely genuine and I’m never taken in by scams , but they are talking about entering a tracking number before I get the funds and in your link it says that Paypal won’t ask you to do that !
So frustrated with myself As I say , I’m never usually taken in . I didn’t enter a tracking number but I did click on the link and I wonder if that allows them to hack into my Paypal account?
Changed my Paypal password as you advised , but I guess I’ll need to contact my bank first thing to change my card!?
So annoyed!

GreasedPiglet · 04/07/2019 22:02

No problem at all. And don't beat yourself up about it - I remember DH saying how genuine the email looked.

Please double check the link I sent though, and make sure that you've done everything that you should.

Pearplum12 · 04/07/2019 22:20

Thank you again . I think my first port of call might be phoning PAYPAL tomorrow
Wonder if they can check if the 2 emails arrived via them and are genuine?.....

OP posts:
SkinThing · 04/07/2019 22:24

Log into your PayPal account and see if the transaction is there.

ONLY post to the buyers registered PayPal address. What are you selling, OP?

Certain items attract more scammers than others.

GreasedPiglet · 04/07/2019 22:29

SkinThing, how does that work though - how do buyers have access to your email address?

browzingss · 04/07/2019 23:07

The service email address is legit, however email addresses can be spoofed.

Essentially everything that PayPal legitimately email you will also appear in your PayPal account. So if PayPal genuinely sent you the email asking for tracking information, the same request will appear under the transaction on PayPal’s website.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/07/2019 06:15

To update my previous post: private sellers now get 1000 free listings a month (I did not know this) and also they have changed that relist function so that the 7 or 8 automatic realists are also free. So effectively it's free, completely, to list on eBay - but be mindful of selling fees.

Pearplum12 · 05/07/2019 07:30

SkinThing - it’s just an item of clothing- not expensive. I’m going to phone PAYPAL when they open as I wonder if they can confirm if the emails are genuine if I give them the times they were received...
