About my neighbours?

Neighbours rent their house. It's just three houses on a small lane.

Have spoken to them a few times, friendly enough just seem like a nice couple with a few young children.

I was in my garden today whilst they were at work and the letting agent came to do an inspection at their house.

When he came out he asked me if I knew whether the neighbours have a dog or not (I'm assuming they aren't allowed by their contract?).

Now I know for a fact that they do have a dog but I just said that I didn't think so, not to my knowledge.

AIBU to think this just isn't any of my business? As far as I am concerned they are nice people and good neighbours, I have no interest whatsoever in 'snitching' on them.

I was sure about it until my mother came round later and said she'd have told them as it isn't fair on the landlord. Fwiw, I don't know the landlord from Adam, they have never lived in the house so far as I know.

I understand it's their house (the LL) but I just don't want to get involved!

I wouldn’t give it a second thought - it was inappropriate of the letting agent to ask you as it doesn’t concern you: it’s completely between the letting agency, landlord and tenant to sort out. I’m a tenant and the letting agency has a list including “is there evidence of pets in the property”, something like that. The agent would have found evidence but doesn’t mean they should go round asking the neighbours for clarification! As you like your neighbours I would give them a heads up though Wink

Okay phew! Sounds like I did the right thing then!

To the poster that suggested they may become nightmare neighbours if they don't follow the rules, I can't really see that happening. They've been here a while now and never had any problems just seem like a normal young family.

The agent may have been able to smell a dog in the house, but couldn't see any evidence of one, hence him asking you. In my experience dog owners aren't always aware how much their pets stink up a house.
