To ask for help about my period

Got 2 kids at home with a stomach bug at the moment, so going to GP is not an option for at least a few more days, so hoping I can ask some advice.

Over the past year my period has got very weird. It's always been 25 day cycle, bleeding for 5-6 days. This past year it's been varying between that and a 40 day cycle, bleeding for 8-10 days. Not abnormally heacy, just lasting longer.

I'm 42 so assumed it was peri-menopause. Went to the doctor a couple of months ago and had blood tests and an ultrasound to check for fibroids etc, nothing found and blood tests only revealed a Vit D deficiency, which they gave me supplements for.

The problem is persisting and this period has now lasted 15 days. Agian, not abnormally heavy, but it has gone from last-few-days type bleeding back to day 2 bleeding yesterday and overnight. The blood is a mix of dark and bright red, with some clots but nothing unusual. Sorry for TMI!

Has this happened to anyone else? Could it still be peri-menopause even though blood tests said not? Do I need to go back to the doctor?

Thanks to anyone who is awake!

Hasn't happened to me butbunexplained bleeding should always be investigated. Go back to the doctor!

Thank you!

Realised I forgot to say they took swabs for chlamydia and infections too, all negative.

Just got a 111 callback who has told me to call my doctor and ask for a phone appointment within the next 12 hours. Fingers crossed.

Blood tests for peri-menopause are bullocks and it's pathetic so many gp's are still so ignorant about it.

"In most cases there's no reliable blood of testing for perimenopause because the primary underlying cause is hormonal fluctuations.

A woman whose hormones show as normal one week might experience a surge of oestrogen the next week or plummeting levels of progestogen another week."

I hope you read this article.

Thanks Aquamarine, that's so reassuring. I thought it must be peri-menopause because my symptoms seem right and my migraines have got worse too lately. It's good to know that the blood test doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Hopefully can get a telephone appointment today to at least speak to a GP.

Thanks too for the link to the article, very interesting.

Just had a call from GP, she is going to issue me with a prescription for a drug to stop my period. I can't remember what it is called?

But hopefully it will help. Anyone taken it?
