To ask for recommendations and advice on period pants

It seems that period pants may be the answer to my tampon disposal conundrum.

Could those of you who have used them share your thoughts and experiences? Which brands you prefer, how they size, how well they wash, how absorbent they are, etc?

Cheeky wipes do some and I really liked them at first but the don't seem to be able to withstand a sudden gush but are fine for lighter days.

I have recently bought 3 pairs from Modibodi in the hope they are better for my heavy days, not seen AF yet so they remain untested.

Cheeky wipes I have heard good things about.

Are they easy to wash? I presume they can go in the machine but no one would want to save them up for a machine wash, is hand washing effective, do stains come out?

I'm only asking out of interest, well past having periods (thank goodness), but all we ever had were pads of various types - I used Always in the latter years - or tampons. I can't imagine just putting pants on when having a period.

I have modibodi too. They're really good, no leaks. I hand-wash them and have no issues with staining.

How do they cope with heavy periods?

Also, how do they feel to wear? I've used tampons since my teens, but remember pads as feeling grotty. I'm hoping they're better than that.

Modibodis here. They are expensive but I treated myself to a supply which means I can wear them everyday.

Periods no longer feature in any of my equations, they can start whenever they like. I can also laugh, cough and jump without worrying about it (I have birth injuries/prolapse).

They are also good for sweat if you have been working out.

I wash them once a week, in the machine with other delicates. They take a couple of days to dry thoroughly in the winter so it is nice not having to wait. I keep a tiny bucket with a lid in my bathroom and just put them in there day to day.

Completely dry at all times here. Life changing for me.

I wash in lingerie bags, on a "sports wash" setting (30 degrees), with a eucalyptus oil type woolwash product and add a couple of shakes of lavender oil to the fabric softener drawer. No mess, no smell. Truly excellent product.

Also comfiest undies I have ever owned.

BabyofMine · 26/06/2019 02:04

IAmNitAWitch, may I ask which absorbency and style you got? I’m considering “investing” in a set, but not sure which absorbency would be best. I’m thinking the full brief but even then I’m not sure.

IAmNotAWitch · 26/06/2019 02:19

Hi BabyofMine, I bought 3 sets of the classic bundles (plus the first pair I bought as a trial):

www.modibodi.com/collections/classic/products/classic-full-brief-light-moderate-7-day-bundle-pack

They are marketed as light/moderate but I find them fine even on heavy days and even with some flooding/bladder leakage - the surface stays dry.

They are 'generously' sized so if you want them snug consider going down a size. I am about comfortable granny pants the whole way.

A friend of mine likes the lacy ones as well (sensual hi-waist bikini), I have too many bad memories from lacy undies, but she likes them!

Seeingadistance · 26/06/2019 02:22

Thanks for the advice!

I'm looking at the Modibodi website. Think I'll give the heavy absorbency classic bikini a try. One pair to start with before I invest in a set!
