Early 40s, may be relevant.

Period arrived as normal on day 28, was very light and pink and only lasted on and off for a day and a half. Didn’t feel like a proper period at all.

Today, day 12 of new cycle OR day 40 of old cycle... new bleed has started, is red and looks more like a period but still very light.

Anyone know what’s going on? I did mention very light period to GP when I was there about something else and she said just to “keep an eye on it” and that I was too young for menopause.

It’s turned into a pretty standard period now.

Any ideas?

Definitely not pregnant OP? (I'm same age as you with an 11 month old so don't rule it out).

steppemum · 24/06/2019 16:27

any chance you could be pregnant? Implantation bleeds and light bleeds when 1st period should have been are common.

or could just be your body having a moment, or it could be a sign of early menopause?

And early 40s isn't too young for meno

MagneticSingularity · 24/06/2019 16:31

Your doctor said you were too young? I'd be looking for another doctor. If she isn't aware that, while the average age is around 50, perimenopause can and does start in many women any time from late 30s to early 60s she's not much of a doctor. I was 38. Ask for a blood test to check your hormone levels if your previously regular cycle has become irregular/spotty/light/heavy/extremely heavy.

So if the small bleed at 28 days was possibly an implantation bleed, is this an early mc? Oh yikes. Wasn’t ttc- far from it!

Yes, I think I will ask for a blood test for hormones levels. And see a different GP. She’s wasn’t very nice tbh. I know you’re supposed to book a double apt to discuss two things but I set a stopwatch discreetly when I went in and noticed I was up to the 6 min mark so thought it was ok to ask this quick question. She actually stood up and walked to the door as she was saying “just monitor it for a few months...and maybe do a pregnancy test...you’re a bit young for the menopause.” Then she opened the door to usher me out! I’d been in there under 7 mins.

Surely your age isn't too young for the menopause? Just too young for an average menopause.

Have you taken any supplements? St Johns Wort really messed with my cycles.

Peterpiperpickedwrong · 24/06/2019 19:30

when I went in and noticed I was up to the 6 min mark so thought it was ok to ask this quick question.

But she still has to type the two separate things up in your notes so, whilst it may seem a quick question, it will still take longer to type up two problem headings/examinations/comments/advice than the one thing they request that you ask.

escapade1234 · 24/06/2019 20:20

No supplements. Antihistamines this month, that’s the only difference.

Well at least I’m not pregnant. Just did a test. Phew! Really didn’t want to be.

Op, I could have written the same post a couple of months ago. I had a late period (like 4-5 days) and then 10 days later started on another that I though was random spotting but then turned into a full on flood. Last two cycles have been about 35-ish days. Years prior I've been 28 days like clockwork. I'm chalking it up to perimenopause.

I'm 42, btw. My mother went through the menopause at age 46.
