With carrots and celery to make bourguinon?

Or would that just be utterly vile?

Can't really be bothered chopping fresh onion...

just have a thought for folks with physical difficulties for whom pre-prepped ingredients are a marvellous thing

This. 100%. There's waaay too much snobbery about preparing food from scratch.

altiara · 23/06/2019 20:24

They’re good for taking camping to go in your hot dogs, for bourguinon you need to buy pre chopped onions either fresh or frozen.

my2bundles · 23/06/2019 20:28

Fair enough if someone has a physical disability. But that's not the OPS about, it's about someone who carnt be bothered to chop one fact is she could choose one in the same time it takes to open a tin.

SinkGirl · 23/06/2019 20:28

Morrisons online says they do ready chopped frozen onion, carrot and celery all packed together ready for me to sauté!

Yep, frozen diced onion, chopped garlic, chopped herbs and soffrito are essentials in my freezer. There’s no waste and it saves time. When I get fresh herbs I chop the rest and freeze with olive oil in ice cube trays but it’s a bit of a pain.

ChesterBelloc · 23/06/2019 20:29

Aren't these the ones Delia Smith recommended in her 'shortcuts' book (can't remember the actual title) - they've been pre-sautéed in olive oil..? If so I'd definitely buy/try them!

(I have super-sensitive eyes, and 'chopping an onion' is my most-hated kitchen task.)

BackforGood · 23/06/2019 20:37

Didn't know you can get tinned onions, although I'm with a pp as I'm also disturbed by spelling 'easy' with a 'z' - I'd find that offputting.

However discovering frozen diced onions has been a game changer. I'll never return to buying whole onions.

codemonkey · 23/06/2019 20:40

What if they make her cry? Opening the tin might not be an issue. Looking like a twat in swimming goggles might be the problem.

Shouldbedoing · 23/06/2019 20:43

Frozen onions are a great time saver. Tinned ones sound grim

Helendee · 23/06/2019 20:46

Tinned Eazy onions are great, really tasty and none of the excess water unlike frozen one.

TheQueef · 23/06/2019 20:49

I've recently tried dried onions in a couple of soups and a stew I'm a convert.

HerRoyalNotness · 23/06/2019 21:04

For beef bourguignon I’d try to find whole small onions that don’t need chopping

I too dread the onion chop but wear onion goggles to prevent the burning, streaming eyes

LimeKiwi · 23/06/2019 21:12

I went for YANBU because even though I much prefer fresh onions and usually chop them up fresh, there's nothing wrong with short cuts every now and again!
Can't be doing with food snobbiness, each to their own and circumstances when it comes to stuff like this.

SilverySurfer · 23/06/2019 21:22

Boak.

Who had money on under a week?!

My bet was on one day.

Poloshot · 23/06/2019 21:23

Sounds horrendous

Oysterbabe · 23/06/2019 21:28

I buy chopped frozen too. Its just easier and I can have exactly the amount I want. There's no waste.

Switsy · 23/06/2019 21:29

I'd try them. Bet they work well in a curry.

I love those tubs of dried onions. They are so scoffable.

Switsy · 23/06/2019 21:30

frozen soffritto is great.

BumandChips · 23/06/2019 21:41

I really like the stew packs Asda do for a £1. Chuck it in the slow cooker with the meat and no waste.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/06/2019 09:12

Delia said it was OK and even encouraged it in her How to Cheat at Cooking book a few years ago.

SoupDragon · 24/06/2019 09:15

I used to have loads of ready chopped things like onions and peppers in my freezer but then I noticed how much plastic I was throwing away. I reluctantly chop my own now.
