Taking 19 month old to passport interview?

Has anyone ever taken their child with them to a passport interview? I have one tomorrow really early and I literally have no childcare and don't have anyone who can take him at all. The woman on the phone said that I can if I can't make alternative arrangements but the email says don't take anyone with you and I can't find anything on Google!

Also if you know what they will ask that would be a bonus!

Thanks in advance!

My friend wasn't allowed into hers with an 18 month old, I only remember because she called me from work to have him for an hour.

No idea what type of questions they ask, I'm afraid; I suspect it's rather broad so that they make it harder for people to prepare for.

If you've been told it's fine on the phone I wouldn't worry. I am not sure what they ask but I think it's just identity stuff like where you were born and so on. That's what DS1 had to answer when he had an interview for an emergency passport. Easy questions. Nothing to worry about :)

Can't help with taking little one. But for mine they asked questions about where I live/what's the area like. What do I do for a living. What do I watch on TV (we talked about got!) and a few bits about my family and confirming stuff on my form. It was fine really and the bloke was nice

Thank you everyone, it's my birthday tomorrow too so thought a morning in central London with my son would be nice but I'm so scared of them turning me away so I've managed to ask my son's dad to take the morning off work.

I feel alot more relaxed now knowing what type of things they ask, I've had nothing but stress getting to this interview stage so hope everything goes ok 😬

I had my passport interview two years ago and literally forgot my postcode 😂 we'd moved twice in the space of a year and I went to say one postcode, realised it was wrong and then completely froze and couldn't remember any of them! The guy interviewing me was lovely though. The other questions he asked were things like where do I work, how long have I worked there, what does my office look like, what's my mum's date of birth, what does my dad do. They're asking you stuff that you will know the answer to, they're not trying to trip you up, so just try to be calm. Pleased to say that I got my passport even though I didn't know my own address 😂

I was asked why I was applying for a passport, had I made concrete plans to travel abroad within the following 5 weeks, where was I planning to travel to and why (visiting relatives who worked abroad), my answers to those questions prompted more questions about the relatives and their jobs and families, also about my job and my family, how long I had lived
at my current address, how and where they met their spouses, how and where I met my husband, They then asked questions about my parents and why I was known by a different surname to that which is recorded on my birth certificate, then they asked more questions about general things, I was there for about an hour, and I can honestly say that I have had easier job interviews, I got my passport 4 days later.

Happy birthday OP but I think you'll have a nicer morning without a toddler in tow. Central London isn't small-child-friendly. I'm sure the interview will be straight-forward.

Thank you! I wasn't too worried about taking him to central London as I've done it many times, I don't live far ( Zone 2) so would just have to get one bus.

It went well, the man at the interview office actually asked where he was and said they do allow children they just don't advertise it because people were getting confused and assuming they need to take their child out of school. He did however say that they can terminate the interview if the child does not behave or is crying alot.

Interview went well I hope, he asked me about my childhood, what schools I went to how I got this job, about 3 different addresses from my past, what house I lived in, questions about my son's dad etc. I was late too because I decided without my son to get the tube and they shut down Victoria station so I had to get the bus.

I was surprised they still saw me even with being 10 minutes late and I didn't have to go through security they just asked I switched my phone off.

Hoping to have my passport soon! 😬
