In thinking I will never have a six pack in my 50s?

I have been on a diet and have been going to the gym 3 times a week - also have been doing stomach crunches etc. at home. I am 53. Is it neigh on impossible for me to get a toned stomach at my age? I don't have stretch marks or a lot of loose skin from pregnancy but I do need to majorly tone up.

I’m 47 and have a six pack and would like to think that it will still be there when I’m 53 😁

Lots of planks, some weights and running have kept my stomach flat and of course eating well and keeping my weight stable.

If your consistent you’ll be surprised what changes you can make to your body shape but it does take time and patience.

I don't think it's impossible, but I wouldn't advise aiming for a six pack as such, rather aim to tighten your core and the six pack will come.
Aside from doing crunches, try doing things like leg raises, planks and cycle crunches, these will tone your obliques, back and lower abs which will help with your core.

It would take a lot of hard work for quite some time but physically it is not impossible.

Thanks for the responses. Haven't done planks but will need to check that out. Yes, I am mainly concentrating first of all on tightening my core.

Depends what you mean by six pack, I imagine a lot of photos we see of people with six packs have been enhanced anyway.

As PPs have said you can certainly improve your muscle strength and tone by regular exercising. I am older than you and was advised to build up muscle as I have low bone density. Do I look like Ms Universe? No, but I have been amazed at how much trimmer I look and how much better I feel.

Keep going, and have a look at yourself in two months and then decide if it was worth it!

All you need for visible stomach muscles is very low (possibly very unhealthy low) body fat. Working out not required, but starvation can get you there.

Not a strategy I'm recommending, btw, just saying that 6pack does not = fit.

Crunches only work the outer abdominals. Combine those with a few pilates workouts per week and you'll soon see the difference.

Goodnightchristopherrobin · 23/06/2019 14:42

I’ve been aiming for this for the last 6-8 months, mine is just starting to emerge (I’m 38).

NameChangeNugget · 23/06/2019 14:47

Totally possible by eating well & training hard. Just avoid the sugar

handbagfettish · 23/06/2019 16:14

I have lost a bit of weight and I am mainly concentrating on toning my thighs and stomach but progress isn't exactly fast.

It's more about nutrition than execrise to get your ab muscle visible your body fat needs to be about 11% or less
exercise is a part of it but its more diet

lljkk · 23/06/2019 19:45

This gal claims to have 10% body fat. Just imho... not a good look.

Ihatehashtags · 24/06/2019 09:01

Why would you want one? All the skinny/thin people I know in their 50s just look old.
