To never open my kitchen window? See pic

I live in a flat on the 2nd floor. My kitchen window immediately looks out to the refuse point below. The pic you see here is on a good day. On a bad day (which is often), the bin carts are overflowing with rubbish in ripped bags or not in bags at all and there is fox shit everywhere.

In warmer weather, the kitchen is boiling. To the point that I never use the oven and I have to shower after washing up as i end up swimming in my own sweat.

Often there is a strong breeze (that i yearn for on those sweaty washing up days) that comes through the kitchen window.

Problem is, that strong breeze comes from the direction of a busy A road. The outside of my kitchen windows are black with grime.

So bearing all this in mind, aibu to never open my kitchen windows?? Would you?

"they cant control how people dump their rubbish, stop the foxes going through the bins, or stop the pollution from the roads."

They can help solve all of those.

You could put in a blind that pulls up rather than down. It will block the view of the bins and will still let in light and you can still have the window open. Luxaflex do them.
It won't do anything for the smell though.

I do have an extractor fan in the kitchen which I use when I'm frying food. However it does not alter the room temperature at all.

Is it actually an extractor or does it just recirculate? In other words, is there a vent on the external wall that the thing blows air out through? For over-hob extractors (ie hoods) lots of builders can't be arsed with cutting a hole in the wall to install them properly, and install them in "recirculation mode" - pretty much useless and just a noisy waste of electricity!

SavingSpaces2019 excuse me? I cleaned my windows last week.

beanaseireann it's the smell and pollution that worries me, not the view.

FiddlesticksAkimbo pretty sure it's an extractor fan, it'sfixed on the ceiling, not on an oven hood.

Sorry to harp on about blinds which are only one aspect of the problem, but I can recommend Ikea’s blackout roller blinds. We have them in our kitchen and they’re pretty hardy, reasonably priced, and easy to open and close.

Seems unlikely they would move the bins. Even if they did, you would still have the grime & noise from the cars.
Can you plan to move soon?

Twistedbiscuit appreciate the recommendation!

cakeandchampagne no hopefully wont be moving anytime soon, it's a housing association flat.
