Early pregnancy and pain that my doctor wont take seriously

I am 6weeks pregnant. This is my second pregnancy but my first was a missed miscarriage. Last night while eating dinner i developed an excruciating pain under my left arm and the side of breast. It was hard to walk or lift my arm or turn my head. I tried to sleep on it as I thought it would get better. Woke up this morning with terrible ache that radiated all over my left shoulder blade and my left armpit and breast. Cried in pain and called my maternity care providers office. The on call doctor said it sounded like i had a muscle injury and told me to ice it and take tylenol. I tried to explain that it started suddenly and did not feel like muscle pain but rather like breast pain from my armpit. She repeated her advice and told me to check in after 2 days. I cried myself in the hot shower(which helped a bit) and cuddled a hot water bag over my left breast. Thats the only thing that has been easing the pain. But if I stop the pain comes back and I also feel chills down my back.
AIBU to want someone to check this out? Should i insist that the clinic actually gives me an appointment? Or should I go to a walk in clinic instead?

Not to scare you, but shoulder pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. I’d insist someone has a proper assessment

Greywalls12 · 23/06/2019 07:32

I'd agree with above, ectopic pregnancy can be very dangerous

^ This. Do you have a local Early Pregnancy Unit you can self-refer to rather than going through the GP again?

If you ring 111 they can tell you where is best to go perhaps otherwise.

Cocoloco2019 · 23/06/2019 07:33

You should get checked out. If it’s that painful which it sounds like it is then you have every right to be concerned. We often know what’s best for ourselves, we know our bodies and know when something is wrong, medical professionals don’t.

ILoveEurovision · 23/06/2019 07:35

I should also add that I thought I had an ectopic pregnancy, got it checked by the EPU and it turned out to be something else and the baby was fine so it's not all doom and gloom yet. But do get checked out again Flowers

TerribleTwosPhase · 23/06/2019 07:36

I have to agree with pp not to scare you but you do need to have it checked out. Maybe ring 111 and see if they can tell you where is best to go? Hope everything is ok.

Get checked out at the EPU. You can google your nearest one. You don't need a referral or anything. Just show up and wait. If EPU is closed at the weekend go go A&E.

From NHS site......

Shoulder tip pain

Shoulder tip pain is an unusual pain felt where your shoulder ends and your arm begins.

It's not known exactly why it occurs, but it can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy causing some internal bleeding, so you should get medical advice right away if you experience it.

I’d ring your EPU and self refer (our trust allows) or ring 111 and get an apt for today at a walk in clinicsz

Thursday452poh · 23/06/2019 07:38

You can also go to A&E as previous OP has said, this is another way to get referred through to EPI

CmdrCressidaDuck · 23/06/2019 07:38

From the OP's description I think she is American.

RoseGoldEagle · 23/06/2019 07:46

Someone reporting shoulder pain at 6 weeks pregnant should be seen as an emergency, to rule out an ectopic. I bet if you called 11 that’s the advice you’d get. I’d definitely get checked out OP. It’s probably NOT that, but definitely go x

Thanks everyone. A week ago they did an ultrasound for me in the ER as they were suspecting an ectopic pregnancy but they were able to confirm that it was infact intrauterine.
So I am really worried. But tomorrow I probably will go to A&E. I am from Vancouver, and our EPU is not open tomorrow.

There is a very, very small chance of it being a twin pregnancy with one ectopic that they missed. Good to hear you're going to get checked out again anyway :)

Sorry to post on this thread,
I found out I was pregnant 1 weeks before my missed period, me and my other half were over the moon, but 3 weeks later after loads of scans and bloods I found out my baby was ectopic, I have a 2 year old baby girl with c.f and and had to terminate a pregnancy last year because there was a chance of another baby with c.f,. A new drug for c.f became available to make her life better and less chance of not being unwell anymore so this pregnancy we were really wanting, I feel like my ectopic happened because I terminated my pregnancy last year, I had been given methotrexate but I have to wait 3 months before ttc, the thought of waiting 3 months is killing me as I just want to be pregnant with my baby again.
