To be worried about mole removal on face??

I have two moles on my face. One on my jawline which is big, raised, dark and hairy!! And a hard, raised paler one on the side of my upper nose.

The one of my nose is obviously more noticeable but doesn’t bother me in that I can’t feel it. It is ugly though.

The one on the jawline has started causing me problems. It feels sore, itches, burns and the whole area around it feels bruised. I went to GP with it who sent me for urgent two week mike check at hospital. They said it doesn’t look sinister but they’ll take it off anyway, as well as the nose one. So I have that app at end of July.

I’m worried! About the pain, scarring and also, what if it goes come back as melanoma?

How long will the scars be obvious? I’m imagining myself being stuck in the house for weeks because I look too hideous to go out! Especially the one on my nose ... it’s going to look so bloody obvious.

I've had two moles removed over the years, both for cosmetic reasons but they were big and one was under my nose. Both times they just shaved it off with a scalpel, so it was a flat round mark left that healed very fast. Obviously if it was a concerning mole, they would remove it differently, but if they said its fine, then it may be the same. To be fair, they sent my nose one away for analysis as standard, so it's doable. In any case it was totally fine! I was amazed

I have had a number of moles removed from my face by a plastic surgeon. It wasn't painful. I had quite visible stitches which was a bit annoying for a week as one was near my mouth. Overall I was really happy that I had my moles removed. It has really improved my confidence.

Hi op, I've had something removed on my jawline. Didn't feel a thing and look less then a minute. The worst thing was I couldn't get it wet for a week or so, tricky in the shower though. I had to hold a dry flannel to the area and wash my hair one handed! No scarring but told their would be. You'll be fine.

Often the worrying and waiting is much worse than the reality!

Can I ask those who paid privately to have facial moles removed, how much did it cost?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/06/2019 08:01

I had a mole removed from just under my bottom lip. Wasn't at all painful. I found the stitches a bit itchy afterwards but that's all. I have a small scar now but that's much better than the mole I had before.

I had 3 moles removed from my face weeks before my wedding: one raised and clear which needed cutting and stitching, one raised and dark which was cut and stitched too, and one who was burnt off. Local anaesthetic was used with the first two ones, just a bee sting really, no pain. There was no scar left for any of them and I am so, so happy with the results! I do encourage you to do it, i haven't missed any of my 3 moles once, and my confidence increased straight away.

I have had one mole removed from my face paid for privately through private medical insurance through work - basically because I just didn’t like the way it looked - and one removed from my nose which was not actually a mole but a pimple which never healed up over several years and turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. Both used the same procedure which was basically to cut it out under local anaesthetic, it took about 5 minutes and I drove myself home both times. You can barely see the scar from either of them - both healed up really well. I did feel self conscious during the massive scab stage but that bit only lasts about a week - nothing in the scheme of things!

DinoGreen · 23/06/2019 08:04

Oh and I forgot to add, the hospital gave me some skin coloured tape which I could use to cover the scab to make it much less obvious when I went out so ask about that if they don’t mention it. In fact I didn’t bother using it after the first time - it was fiddly and I thought it would heal up quicker if I just left it open to the air.

I had a mole removed years ago when I was a teenager. You can see a slight raise in the skin but otherwise it’s not at all noticeable. I’d rather have that than the great big mole in its place.

Good luck, I don’t think you will regret it.

I had a mole on my chin removed that just refused to stop bleeding during one of my pregnancies.

I went back a month after birth and the consultant gave local anaesthetic, then used what looked like a surgical type instrument that looked like leather punch you'd use to create a belt hole.
It was over very quickly with a single stitch to close the round hole.

I was horrified at the shape of the hole left and thought it would scar.

Surprisingly it healed flat and quite quickly and I can hardly tell when this huge bleeding mole had been.

I have to look hard in a magnifying mirror to see the evidence.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 23/06/2019 08:24

Personally I’d go with removal and the big jaw one and leave the nose one (unless they are concerned about cancer)
My Mum has one removed and honestly they butchered it a bit (I think she had a terrible doctor though)
