Posting for traffic my DD is 4 she's covered head to toe from the soles of her feet to in her eyes chicken pox, they started Thursday night, she's in agony I don't know what else I can do for her? Doctor just said use this cream and give piriton and calpol but it's not really helping I have no idea what else I can do to help her? I've never seen them so big especially in her private area she's struggling to go toilet etc.

I've heard a bath in head and shoulders classic is good for chicken pox. I've never used it so can't vouch, sorry.

Try poxclin, it's a foam. I've used that and it very good.

I'm sure you'll have heard but don't use ibuprofen as it can cause an adverse reaction.

Hope she's better soon. It's a wee sin when they're no well.

moonbabyandthebeast · 23/06/2019 00:27

Both my children had it in February,my 3 year old son had a particular bad case so I fully empathise with u. We tried so many things but what worked for us was frequent plain baths to encourage the spots to dry up and eurax cream which really soothed the itching when nothing else would. Also reiterate what pp said- regular Calpol and piriton but no ibuprofen. Fingers X she gets well very soon.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 23/06/2019 00:27

Virasoothe spray.
And piriteze was better than Piriton. The one you can only take 2x a day. Much better.
Ice pops
Audible to soothe to sleep
Open window and cool room

Thanks everyone haven't heard of that poxclin cream but I do have Eurax seems to help to an extent but then it's off again defo doesn't last 6-12 hours like it says on the box. I offered her a cool bath now but hasn't been something she wants wish there was some magic cure Sad

Bath with baking soda (not too hot because cool feels better, no medical reason).

Maybe show her how to run an ice cube over the bit that bothers most?

Poor thing, chicken pox is far worse than any other form of itch.

PaddingtonMare · 23/06/2019 00:42

Seconding a bath of bicarb - it dries out the spots and reduces the itching. I wasn’t sure about poxcilin and it’s expensive.

And don’t give her ibuprofen!

Suze1621 · 23/06/2019 00:45

Poxclin mousse is fab. Very cooling and soothing and so easy to apply. Was a godsend for my little one who was covered too.

Cheersthankyouta · 23/06/2019 00:48

My lot didn't have it as bad as you describe though they did have them in some awful places. Genitals, eyelids etc. We used piriteze as mentioned above, but also did oat baths.

Normal oats put in foot of old tights / muslin cloth tied up, then soaked in bath as it is running. They also liked dabbing the oat parcel on their skin.

Seemed to give some relief.

Hope your little one finds some relief soon.

anitagreen · 23/06/2019 14:45

Shit pic but surely this is not normal ? Looks like a purple rash spreading up her arms is this a normal reaction for chicken pox

Just worrying a little as my son doesn't have this and some of hers do look like a little sore on the back etc. It also doesn't go when you roll a glass over it Confused

We used bicarb in the bath when DS2 was covered.

Would it help If you poured warm water over her genitals when she's having a wee to dilute it a bit, in the same way they recommend after you have had a baby?

WatcherOfTheNight · 23/06/2019 15:16

Definitely Bicarbonate of soda ,lots of it in the bath & make a paste with water & let dc paint their spots with a child's paint brush .

Ds is one of the unlucky ones who's had chicken pox a couple of times & it helps.
Also used virasoothe kept in the fridge.

WatcherOfTheNight · 23/06/2019 15:19

Ring 111 if you aren't sure about the rash on her arm ,it could be from scratching but better safe than sorry if it's non blanching rash.

Sparadrap · 23/06/2019 15:22

The oats in a sock/tights was the best thing for both my dd and my dh (who also got it). You need to let it soak for ages in water and then it produces a milky wallpaper paste goop. It soothed the itching more than the shop bought stuff.

MarthasGinYard · 23/06/2019 15:27

Virasoothe gel

Keep it in the fridge

gerbilfun · 23/06/2019 15:29

Oats in a sock in the bath. My dd was covered and I did this and the spots dried out the next day.

MaMisled · 23/06/2019 15:35

Put some oats in a sock/ tights/laundry bag and hang in stream of water for a cool, soothing bath.

Can you still buy calamine lotion? Magical stuff which helps itching and smells incredible.

Hidingtonothing · 23/06/2019 15:39

Some people having good results from bathing in Head & Shoulders shampoo apparently, has to be the Classic Clean one though.
