To ask for your contraception method experiences

Posted in family planning a while ago but didn't get any replies so posting for traffic.

I need to consider what contraceptive method to use following having a baby. I would prefer not to go back on the pill due to some theories I have about it negatively impacting my health.

What are your experiences with other methods? I have only ever used barrier methods other than the pill. Considering a coil but have heard some scary horror stories.

Thanks

My DM had the mirena coil and she hated it. It hurt like hell going in and became dislodged so had to be surgically removed in the end. It’s put me off the coil.

I had the implant once and it was so hideous I ended up crying and begging for it to be removed. I bled every day I had it in, had spotty skin, lost my sex drive completely and was a hormonal wreck. Hideous thing.

@Pinkmouse6 what have you gone with in the end? The two I'm considering are the mirena coil and the implant :(

I had the copper coil for about 15 years which was great no problems.

Had the Mirena fitted last year. Bleed almost continuously for 12 weeks, then no periods.

Personally I would highly recommend either!

Obviously I had my coil changed, taken out when I wanted to get pregnant etc- I didn’t have the same one in for 15 years! Lol

Had mirena, awful. Seems to be v marmite. Thing is if you don't get on with it you to somehow have it out which is easier said than done, it seems.

We use condoms works for us.

Cerezette turned me into a bloated furious bitch before failing to do it's job anyway.
Microgynon made my poor F cups swell to a very sore HH.
Yasmin covered my face in brown patches. The GP said it wasn't the pill, but when I stopped taking it the patches vanished.
I'm on low dose oestrogen now. I no longer get the crippling periods that I did, plus for some reason I'm fitting into an E cup, after the first packet my norks have shrunk right down. Yay for the lack of back and shoulder pain.
It does turn me into a bit of an emotionless zombie, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.

@Slicedpineapple for the first 6 months I had normal (for me) pain levels, and then it gradually decreased over the next 6 months and my periods gradually got lighter and lighter until they stopped.

Most of my pain is around the time of ovulation, and I think some months I do still ovulate, so the pain is quite unpredictable now, but definitely less frequent and intense than previously.

I’m currently on my second implant. It has worked best for me (mainly because I’m too scatty for remembering to take the pill).

With my first one I had really light bleeding for about three months and then my periods stopped all together for 2 years. In the last year I’m convinced it wasn’t as good because I started having lots of irregular bleeding and hormonal acne, which stopped when I had it removed. This one seems to be following the same pattern so I’m planning to get it removed after 2 years!
