Or just plain lazy?

Over the years I've bought and sold quite a bit on eBay. I used to think nothing of listing things, taking the photos, measuring the items, writing the descriptions, etc.

I have three items of clothing that are brand new and never been worn. Two are with tags. The total value is about £90. I've had them for a while and keep meaning to put them on eBay as it seems like madness to take them to the charity shop when I know I can at least get some money back.

The thing is I've realised I am NEVER going to do this and will just drop them off at the charity on Monday.

I just really can't be bothered with messing about listing the things. I am not in particular need of the money but the money would obviously be useful to have as it always is. Even if I got £20 in total for the whole lot I could buy something nice or useful with it.

But I just CANNOT BE FAGGED! Am I lazy?

Ebay has always been a complete faff. Stick them on Shpock and Facebook way quicker.

RedHelenB · 22/06/2019 17:44

Tbh selling on Ebay is a faff nowadays so I'm not doing it any more just look at donating that money to charity and you can feel good about yourself too

ems137 · 22/06/2019 17:48

I've found that selling on eBay is often a big hassle. I got sick and tired of the buyers wrongly claiming items were broken/wrong description/wrong sizing/stained/holes in and then just automatically getting a refund

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 17:54

I was literally thinking about this today. I have quite a few things to sell on ebay but it's such a hassle and buyers can be such pains in the arse, I'm just not sure it's worth it. I used to ebay all the time too.

TigerLilyMasie · 22/06/2019 17:57

You guys are making feel better. I suppose when eBay first started it was all a novelty really, wasn't it?

I once bought a load of evening bags to sell on there, all different. I vividly remember spending about 45 minutes on each one, describing in detail, measuring etc. I would never do that now.

Maybe you could start a swap thread on here? I’m in the same boat and have some new with tags stuff that I can’t be bothered listing.

The charities would be very grateful though, you’re not being lazy at all.

ALemonyPea · 22/06/2019 18:01

eBay is shit now, I only buy off there, would never sell as a lot of buyers these days are chancers.

origamiunicorn · 22/06/2019 18:02

I sold a few of my dresses on eBay recently OP and it was a faff. The suggested postage is usually off and it seems to force you to pick a preset, no chance to add packing costs.

I used to sell loads on eBay, dresses would go for loads, now even ones with tags still on Blush have gone for as little as a couple pounds! It's not worth it.

And then there are the CFs who win the item then say... Can I wait to pay until end of the month/until I've won your other items, can you send to Spain... despite saying no international posting. Etc etc

So no you're not being lazy, it's just not worth it.

sackrifice · 22/06/2019 18:10

Ever since sellers has zero protection off scammers it has been shite.

I'd rather give it away on freecycle, which i now do regularly.

bourbonbiccy · 22/06/2019 18:23

I would prefer to just give away to a good home. eBay sounds like such a faff when you speak to people.

I wouldn't say it's lazy at all, just putting your time to better use !!!

wannabemama0812 · 22/06/2019 18:27

There is an app called Vinted which I just discovered. It makes it so easy to list your items, and they don't take any fee from sellers. You get 100% of the money. They make money from the "buyer's protection fee" they charge buyers. It is so simple - they even send you the postage label to put on your items. Recommend!

MrsMozartMkII · 22/06/2019 18:27

I just give stuff away.

If it's big it goes outside and someone (almost) always takes it. Other than that it's off to the charity shop with it.

Admittedly it's been a while since I've been in desperate need of money. If I was then I'd be carefully trying to sell every last thing.

RiddleyW · 22/06/2019 18:30

I give everything to charity - I just think of it as a nice easy way to donate.

TheDarkPassenger · 22/06/2019 18:38

I give it all to charity too. I cba with the chew of selling and collecting etc. Our lives are manic enough anyway hahaha.

I like to think of it like I haven’t exactly lost money cos I bought the things, not like taking it back to the shop. I can’t explain it haha but I know what I mean 😬

TigerLilyMasie · 22/06/2019 19:27

Thank you, everyone! It really was bothering me but I feel better now. I have already put them into a bag now ready to take on Monday.

Is "cannot be fagged" an actual saying in the U.K.? Confused

RiddleyW · 22/06/2019 19:37

Yes it is.

Littlemisslists · 22/06/2019 19:41

I was exactly the same op, was trying to sell some really good quality clothing for next to nothing, the amount of time wasters was soul destroying and in the end I donated it to charity. I’m not going to go through it again.

TigerLilyMasie · 22/06/2019 19:47

LadyWho

Lol! It was a more polite way of saying what I meant!

spashy · 22/06/2019 23:05

I never donate my clothes to charity. I occasionally perhaps donate a top who is a size smaller or larger to my friends. But usually I wear until the clothes is in bits. But it be downgraded to the house. Why did you buy the clothes in the first place. Especially if you going to give them away. I couldn't donate that value of clothes to the charity shop. I much rather cash in my wallet.

DareDevil223 · 22/06/2019 23:16

@LadyWho 'can't be fagged' just means 'can't be bothered'. It comes from the practice of 'fagging' at public schools where younger boys had to fetch and carry for older boys. It's not homophobic in any way.

gotmychocolateimgood · 22/06/2019 23:25

Is the space you will gain, and the time you will save by not listing the items, worth more to you than the few £ you might earn from selling them? Probably not.

LadyWho · 22/06/2019 23:30

Ok my apologies, I googled it after I posted because I was baffled. Blush

I'm American and it only has 1 (very negative) meaning for us.
