Nike trainers for 4 year old? 10.5G at Clarks, with high in-step

My son, aged 4, would like some Nike trainers as his friend at nursery has some. I'm not keen, but husband has raised his hopes! If we can find some that will fit his wide feet I could reconcile myself to them. He is a 10.5G at Clarks, with a high in-step. Any recommendations of Nike styles that come up wide? I don't want to buy some that won't fit and try them on him only to attempt to send them back as that would be the end of the world!

If not Nike, any other brands you could recommend? Although he really would like the Nike ones...

Our physio recommended Nike trainers for our lo as they are really supportive for her high arches. Cant you go to a shop and get them fitted with him?

nike are wider than adidas I find. go to sports direct and try loads on.

Tbh feet that wide and that age stick to Clarks. You'll have years of being badgered for labels etc, at 4 they are still young enough to do/wear as told.

Failing that I have very wide feet (6.5 E) and wear up to an 8 in Nike to accommodate them, you will have to try and see but you may have to go up to a 12.

Sports Direct and Decathlon do a decent cheapish range with many sizes, think it would be madness to try and do by post, just visit one of the advice to try on until you find the right size

Wow. At 4(!).... you are letting him have what his nursery friend has, because "he wants to"...Confused

Good luck with that when he turns 14

I buy my boys nike Air Force 1s I find them to be wide fitting.

Teateaandmoretea · 22/06/2019 11:12

As pp poster said try some on in Sports direct. G isn't excessively wide, both my dds have perfectly normal feet and have been either an F or G as their feet have grown.

I wouldn’t buy them personally. It’s a big young to be demanding particular branded clothes. I think that might be a slippery slope. I would get some proper fitting kids trainers. His feet will likely grow before you know it anyway and then what will you do? My daughter was handed down loads of branded trainers when she was little and they were generally very stiff and heavy. We handed them onto someone else.

bit not big

My 4 year old likes to have the same thing as her friends, like a school uniform jumper and a particular rucksack. I dare say she might like the same shoes/trainers. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with buying him Nike trainers if you want.

Try a Nike outlet store if you're near one - usually a fair bit of choice for kids shoes, plus they end up £20 a pair or less. My daughter has had Nike trainers for nursery since she started walking - much cheaper than Clark's, Start-Rite trainers, etc. I usually go for flexi soles on them so they're not stiff or difficult for her to walk in.

I am quite (my husband would say very) strict about what DS watches on TV, for example, and don't let him watch anything just because his friends do. However, I guess I wouldn't be so worried about a pair of trainers IF they fitted properly. We'll probably stick to Clarks/Startrite or similar for now mainly due to a choice of width fittings. Thank you very much everyone for all the helpful comments and suggestions.
