Long story short;
My dc is in school and I have a few things I would like to talk to the head about...BUT I can’t call him on a weekday as I work and I cannot have my phone in work. A childminder drops my dc to school so I cannot see him in the morning, by the time I collect my dc at 4 /4.15 he is gone, so I’m thinking the only way is to email him out of hours for him to read in school hours? Aibu?

I also want to teach in Ireland! Perhaps they start much earlier in the morning though?

Schoolmum3 · 22/06/2019 11:54

@modgepodge
Schools start at 8.40 , 8.50 , 9.00, 9.10 or 9.20 depending on the school. So finishing times can vary from 2.20, 2.30, 2.40, 2.50 or the latest 3.00.

They also have much longer holidays too don’t they?

I am a school governor in England, we have most of meetings in the evenings, usually starting after 6pm. I regularly have emails from SLT after this time on other days too

Not exactly related to the OP's question(I always email, btw) but I finish work at 3.30 sometimes and as I drive to my village I pass all the teachers going the other way - they're out of that school like bats out of hell!

Teaching in Ireland is a world away from teaching in the UK.

Only problem as far as I can see is that they require Irish language so I can’t move in September 🤣

manicinsomniac · 22/06/2019 12:23

Of course YANBU.

I get an average of about 10 parent emails a day. It can be 30+ at busy times. And I'm not even SLT, I'm just director of performing arts.

And we have to reply within 24 working hours too!

Par for the course in the 21st century. And far preferable to be able to shoot off an email at any time than have to have a meeting when you can both make it.

Yes @ineedaholidaynow mine are finished next Thursday and back in September

Week 2 then they have a week of summer camp,
Week 3/4 we are on a two week holiday, week 5 they are at their cousins for a week, week 6 gps have them daily for a week.
Week 7 Dh is taking a weeks leave
Week 8 dh is taking some parental leave and other gps are minding them for 2/3 days
Week 9-undecided 😬
